Looking into theft recovery ITR
Would it be a bad idea to buy a theft recovered type R?
The story behind is it was broken into on the dealer lot when it was brand new in 2001 and then they tried to steal it but never got past the ignition. So they left the car there. The dealer could not sell the car because it only had 10miles on it and it was already broken into. So they had the insurance call it a total loss. Then someone bought it and owned it for 31000 miles then traded it in at this lot. I am thinking about getting it but because of the title I am kind of iffy. They want 17500 for the car. What do you guys think should I go for it? Would it be a good deal. I was going to try to get them to 15000 for it. The car is CLEAN.
Thanks.

Did the dealer tell you that story? Sounds like they're full of **** to me. I hate used car salesmen.
Find out the story from the original owner if possible. did you check the ITRCA registry yet to see if he's on there?

get a car fax, and see when it was issued the salvage title. if you look at the dates and mileage on the report you can either verify or exclude the remarks about the car being only broken into with 10 miles. which i doubt.
i know that dealerships when sometimes a new car comes in damaged, they repair it and just sell it. most dealerships have their own body shop. if they only broke in and damaged the ignition, its highly doubted the insurance company would mark the entire brand new car a total loss.

It reads on the carfax that the car had 10 miles on it on 1/23/01. It then reads that on 1/23/01 the car was a theft recovery with a rebuilt/ rebuildable title. Then reads that it was an insurance loss. Then says it was finally bought on 12/13/01.
who knew that for once a used car salesmen was NOT full of complete **** and knew the backround,
to that salesmen....
i guess he would tell the truth becaus there is no lie that would sound better..

Ya I just found a mint yellow ITR with 20,000 original miles for $16,000 with a clean title. From a friend of a friend that owns a impound yard. He impounded the car from a guy that didn't pay his payments. So I think that would be a GREAT deal. I am going to try to pursue this one maybe get him a little lower and pay payments so I can keep the S and the R.

Everything stock? That sounds like a really good deal.
