Car dies when cold

Default Car dies when cold

Well, If I don't warm up my car and I try to drive immediately after turning it on, It will just cut right off. If it doesnt shut off the RPMs will drop extremely low then go back up to idle.

This car also has a bouncing idle problem when warm. So when the engine is really cold and I hit the gas the engine dies. When warm there is an idling issue. Any help? I tried replacing the IACV and I cleaning it as well.

My wife's CR-V had a silmilar problem. Stalled during the first few minutes of driving. Weirdest thing fixed it--a valve adjustment solved the whole problem.

Give it a shot (assuming it hasn't been done to the car recently).

A valve adjustment fixed the cold problem? That's weird. Did the car have any idling issues?

Doubt it'd do the same thing, but when I did my intake mani swap, they talked about a sensor that coolant runs through on the TB of the Y7 that is used to control cold idle. I *think* if you just loop and bypass it, the car idles higher than normal. Guess it's not really going to solve your problem, but it sounded good in my head.

My idle is already too high [usually sits at like 1300rpm]

Its really annoying to see my lights dim when the RPMs drop everytime I just hit the gas when its cold.

I know--even the mechanic said it was the last thing he would have suspected.

On cold starts, the car would stall out (especially on hills where the auto tranny was loaded a bit) or hesitate massively when it was just getting moving.

Basically, it would bog a bit coming out of the driveway. There is then a big hill to get out of my neighborhood. Stop at the top of the hill, car dies.

Once it was warmed up completely, it was fine.

The valve adjustment solved the problem completely. 100k on the clock and it feels like like new.

This guy is right.

It is your cold idle control valve. I had the same problem as you. Replaced it, now my car runs just fine in the cold.

that's not the IACV is it? if not, where is it?
