SPOON LSD - what gear oil?
Hi Guys,
Just about to have a spoon LSD installed on my car,
Ive done a search, and checked out some websites.
AJ-Racing - would be one of those sites who advised that Special gear oil is required.
For those who have the LSD's are there any gear oils i can use?
MOTUL? CASTROL? etc...
thanks for your time,
your input would be much appreciated

Motul appears to work quite well....
But I have had the most luck with Redline MTL and Ford Friction modifier.
This was until I sold my KAAZ for a Quaife....
Perhaps one more thing to take into account would be how/where you intend to drive the car.
If it is a track only car or a weekend ride, you might do best with the manufacturer's recommended fluids..... my above mentioned combo seems to work good on track and takes into consideration cold winter mornings and daily driving duties.....

DON'T use normal Honda MTF. The Spoon LSD calls for the Kaaz fluid. Nothing less because it will chatter.
Also, I'd highly recommend you break it in properly. Easy figure 8's for about 20 minutes in 2nd gear, pushing the clutch in around the corners

thanks for the replies guys...
break it in with figure 8's - check.
intended use will be for track work, however the car is a daily driver also.
im leaning towards a castrol or a MOTUL fluid as they have come recommended by mechanic and tuner respectively.
im in Australia and am awaiting someone to advise if they have kaaz fluid
thanks again

I'm not familiar with that particular spoon part, but if it's clutch type then use gear oil. If it's helical, then use mtf.
I'm using the mobil 1 gear oil in my ats lsd equipped tranny. I've heard valvoline gear oil is recommended as well. The ATS gear oil is $100/ gal.....!

If its helical, still use gear oil. MTF is cheap junk.
If its a clutch pack you will need to use some sort of friction modifier.

Yea, spoon is rebadging (surprised
) either a KAAZ or ATS lsd. It's definitely a clutch-pack and requires a fluid with a friction modifier.

I use Redline MT-90 with my Mugen LSD. A Motul with a friction modifier would be my other choice, if Redline wasn't so easy for me to obtain.
where did you find that spoon LSD i found one for k20 but im looking i look in inlinefour.com and they had tons of spoon parts but no spoon b series LSD and how much did you get it for
Motul 300v is an engine oil.... i wouldnt recommend it.
http://www.motul.co.jp/eg/prod....html - thats probably what you want.

Since Castrol Syntrax and MOTUL 300V is readily available here in Australia (hard to find Kaaz gear oil) what kind of friction modifier should I use?
thanks again </TD></TR></TABLE>
Pretty simple: call Kaaz USA and see what they recommend since you can't get a hold of their oil.

I heard about the Motul Gear FF, but when I asked about it 2 months ago, a Motul dealer told me it is not available yet, and the listed price on it was close to $100Cdn per Liter.

For the OEM diff, Motul gear 300 has been very good to me - I will give it a drive when I get home next week to see how it deals with cold temps though.
