Default a few probs with my 91 DX

Hey all.

Put in a D15 ZC in my 91 DX.

Heres the prob.

Started the car no prob.... idle was fine. Reversed it out of the driveway, still fine.

Put it into 1st and pulled forward, still fine.

stopped at intersecting street, put the car int N then back into 1st, would not go into gear and got a whole lotta grinding. Reversed back to get away from traffic.

Put the car back into N. Car shut off.

Went to restart it, and dead bat.

So, I'm guessing the alt can be 1 problem area here.... but what about the gear prob?

Not to sure here...

Help me out

OK, so does anyone have any ideas about the battery? Funny thing is, I went and started it today..... the car shut off, and the bat had no juice again.

Are any interior lights left on. Maybe take the car to auto zone or something have them test the charging system. Does your shift linkage have lots of play in it? It could be that, at least there is something to check out.

OK, so I got thinking the power problem was my alt. I got a spare one, but I just wanted to test the system first. So I tossed a volt meter on. There was no body draw... like maybe .3 V.

So I start the car, and let it run. No draw from the batt. Turned on the stereo, head lights, fog lights and the heat system (It's winter up here). Car idled for 20 mins, no prob.

I give it a bit of gas, and the car bogs down, and strugles back up to idle, the batt light flickers on, a bit more gass, batt light comes on, car shuts off.

Ideas???????
