Default Is it safe..?

Is it safe to rev on stock GSR rod bolts to 8700?
I have upgraded valvetrain and will have cams that make power up there. (Wont be revving there untill new cams installed and tuned).

Basically Im tight on money and dont know if I can afford the extra cash to get my stockers pressed out, Bored and ARPs pressed in, on top of the cost of the ARP's!

Tried searching , no help

Thanks

well, considering the factory gsr rev limiter is set at 8600 i believe an additional 100 rpms wouldn't hurt the motor.

i wonder where people get their info from......that is wrong

stock GSR rev-limiter is 8100rpm. an extra 600rpm is probably "OK" but i wouldent risk it......

I've done 8700rpm pretty consistently on the front stretch at Gingerman at the top of 3rd gear. I must have done at least 20 or so laps that day.

I've also done 8700rpm at auto-x's. I destroyed the bearings on a single rod but the rod bolts never stretched.

I have a stock GS-R block, and I rev to 8500 at least once every day, usually much more. I don't know how much difference 8700 would be. I'm not sure what kind of use your car will be getting either, but, I can tell you that my car is still okay and I rev the crap out of it. I've read of numerous people revving stock blocks up to 9K on daily driver's with no problems, but its your car, be careful with it.

right, different use is different stress

just visiting 8500 or 8700 even briefly in 1st or 2nd, is much different from winding out 3rd, or 4th gear on a track where ur that high up for more than just an split second

I usually beat on it as much as possible, maybe ill have the rev limiter set at 8500 for the safe side, i know 200rpm's isnt alot but better safe than sorry.

Im going to stay away from highway runs, except 3rd and 4th gear at the dragstrip

I wind it up in 3rd and 4th sometimes on the highway, and my block is still straight. I do this maybe 3 or 4 times a week. Like Evil Nick M was saying, it's still not the same as being on a track because you sustain higher RPMs for a much longer time (I probably wouldn't hang out in RPMs higher than 8000 for too long, and even then I'd be a little sketchy). I drag race and have a little fun on the highway and my block has held up like a champ, so if that's all you plan on doing, I suppose you should be okay.

Why so harsh?? I wonder where people get their manners from??? Anyhow 8700 should be fine, but in my experience factory tachometers can be off by a couple of hundred rpm so be careful.

Get a clue man... if you asked a question like this and someone blindly blurted out 8600 rpm.... and you follow that advice, spin a bearing which ends up freaking up your crank and oil pump.... would you then be Mr. Polite ?

There are just some questions best left answered by facts, not guesses.

listen man, from personal experience, my p72 revved to 8600 rpms. it was a fact on my car. if homeboys motor spins a bearing from revving to 8600 rpms, his motor was about to go anyway because that is not uncommon for a b series motor. you are completely contradicting yourself by telling me to use facts instead of guessing, but you are acting like a tool and telling prostock that you use insults to make a point instead of facts. get your story straight buddy

also, like he said, the tach in my car might have been off a few hundred rpm at the high rpms, so i saw 8600 on my cluster, but it was only 8100. so lets not be so critical.

Listen pumpkin...

1) I was not talking to you, I was talking to prostock... at no point did he or I ask you anything.

2) Get YOUR story straight guy... you are telling people things THAT ARE INCORRECT !

You don't even know what your stock rev limit is and you THINK you can safely spin it to 8600 ? Worse yet... YOU ARE GIVING PEOPLE ADVICE based on what you 'know' ? It's things like this that get noobs flamed up the yang.

Listen... the difference between 8100 and 8600 is 500rpm... you might not think it's alot, but it is....not being critical blows engines.
