Default CRX Si - Brake Upgrades?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a twin piston (4 caliper) front brake kit for an 88 CRX Si? I race the little bugger and she needs more stopping power if I'm to nose ahead of the big cars into the bends..

Thanks

SW

I have 4 wheel disc off a 90 Integra and it stops pretty good in my 88 crx HF. I need a DA master cylinder and brake booster tho, now that makes a HUGE difference.

The integra brakes are all the same size for years 90-00. Try finding a set from a 90-93 teg and your all set and you get a decent brake upgrade for pretty cheap.

Try to get a 90 EX front brakes set up. they are bigger than si in diameter. 10.3" brake disc, but you'll need the whole steering knuckle, the caliper bracket, and the caliper.

I'll recommend you to replace the master cylinder from the EX also.

i think if you want to go oem, you can get 96-00 ex/si front knuckles and i beleive the 4 piston NSX calipers will bolt on.

Dont quote me but i know one civic knuckle will allow a nsx caliper

On my CRX I have Wilwood's Dynalite 4 piston calipers. Thay are freakin awesome... however my only complaint is that with my kit (13 inch) I'm stuck with 17 inch wheels (Konig Helium light weights) because of brake clearance issues. I know that Wilwood offers some other similar kits, you should check them out.

And I will say that my brakes take some very hardcore abuse, but the pads last FOREVER, also my brakes don't overheat like my old ones did.

Thanks guys for the tips.

I'll try calling willwood and the fastbrakes guys as it looks like they both don't go back to pre-1990 models.

i personally think that anything more then EX/Integra fronts are overkill. Teg fronts paired up with the right prop vlave and master cyl./booster and some nice pads will be more then enough to have tons of fun

Yeah, my brakes are overkill... oh well, nothing could deflect tailgaters better!
I don't know how many times I have sent shitty drivers off-roading because they tailgated me when I have nowhere to go. Nothing better than brake checking a random cocky ricer into the gravel eh?

The only thing I can think of is the lack of rear disk brakes on the 88 and 89 maybe.

Would a '94 and up brake booster, prop. valve, and master cyl. fit on a '90 DX?

... what he said (only you can also use '91 EX stuff), and add steel braided lines.

I used the 90-93 DA knuckles, yielded more +camber.

The 90-91 EX knuckles are preferable.

Wow nice setup what are you using for your back brakes ? Obviously you want them to equal out
also how much did you pay for your front setup from wilwood?

LOL! man I get a kick from doing this also and lately I have been doing this more often. Yes I know it will come back to me, but when I'm doing about 70 on the highway and a retard tries to intimidate me by tailgating and pushing me to go faster, I slam on my brakes and see the look on there face through my rear view mirror as their wheels lock up and get close to me as if there expecting to rear end me. By then I have already punched it and took off and they dont even follow me anymore cause they are in so much shock! LOL. man sometimes I regret it, but hey poke at a harmless dog long enough and he WILL BITE!

about brake upgrade, wilwood kits are awsome. If you want a low budget kit then go the EX/DA upgrade path which is what I got and cant compalin much afterv all its only honda OEM.

HAHA, yeah I guess you do that too then? So far my greatest one yet:

On a highway a couple months ago, going the 55 mph speedlimit, I'm in the middle of a huge line of cars going steady with a safe distance between all of us. Out of nowhere, this soccer mom in a lifted Excursion gets so close to my rear end that I can see her license plate through the small rear window piece (or whatever it's called).

I try to be a nice guy for a couple miles, but then she keeps getting closer and her headlights are blaring into my mirrors now. Ironically, I had just turned my brake boosters up a few days before.

So by now my fuse had ran out, and I gave this bitch the worst brake check that was possible. I hear her lock it up behind me and I watch as her big *** SUV swerves slightly left and right with the headlights dipped towrad the ground. She drives on the shoulder for a second so I start cracking up. Then to make it even funnier, for some reason this lady hits her hazard lights and pulls over and parks! I'm guessing she dropped her Big Mac and her 42 oz drink must have went flying from the cupholder...

So yes, a big brake kit is an effective deterrent to tailgaters.

And as for the question about my rear disk brakes, they are also 13 inch Wilwoods too. I pm'ed you about the details yesterday.

so the front 12.2 wilwood setup can be used for the rear as well ? Or do you have to use the 11 in with a wilwood 4 piston caliper?

The kit came as a set of 4 13 inch disk brakes. The 2 in the rear were built for the rear, they weren't front disk brakes modified to fit the back. The rear also came with a caliper for the E-brakes. So it is 4 13 inch disk brakes with 4 seperate Wilwood Dynalite 4 piston calipers. That's why I'm stuck with 17's.
