Default What should I do next? 3 routes

Already turbo what should I spend xtra $1800

1. Install already purchased JE 9:1 pistons and crower rods into exisisting motor in car since they are sitting in my room.

2. Start prepping the xtra Vtec head I have sitting in my room with ferrea or crower: valves, springs and retainers and port.

3. Buy hondata 3b with injectors.

What Im really asking is what should I do with $1800 (besides give it away to you! J/K)

Why does it cost $1800 to install pistons and rods that you have already purchased?

Good suggestions get two things done.
Hondata turbo 3b $870
injectors $400 roughly
need to find out how much the install of pistons and rods into my car will be.
Local shop (SFP) quoted me $200 if I brought them the short block.
If I bring the car with the motor in it they have to remove turbo, oil pan, head etc Then install pistons and rods and then put everything back together....probably well over $500. Im gonna ask them tommorrow (SFP) if its better to take the car to them with the oil pan, turbo and head off. Might save me a few hundred bucks and probably only take me 1-2 hours. Any thoughts?

You could just do it yourself, it's pretty easy.

is it possible to install pistons and rods with the block still in the car? i would think it is, but is it just too much trouble to deal with?

dustin, how easy is this? and how easy is it to pull a motor? i'm planning on a rebuild soon and the more $ i can save in labor the better. the only problem is it's cold out, and i don't even really have a garage. the only jobs i've really done so far have been brake pads and fuel pump. i found both very easy, like they should be. i'm trying to get my hands dirty now that i have more confidence, but i don't want to go in over my head and f--- everything up. what do you think?

I think a garage would be pretty helpful, aside from that you need a cylinder hone, ring compressor, maybe a couple things I'm forgetting. I did my pistons and rings myself without takin out the motor, just pulled the head and oil pan. If the head wasn't such a pain in the **** to get off, I probably could have done it in 4-6 hrs but it ended up taking longer than that, maybe 2 nights (one to get everything apart and another LATE night to get it all back together) but I was also installing a new manifold which meant I needed to reroute some piping, modify my downpipe, etc. which took me a good amount of extra time.

I got the quote today and SFP would do the pistons and rods for $750. They said JE and Crower already come balanced. (vuudoo and downpipe, you dont need to pull motor for install this is done all the time).
Dustin because I have never seen it done in front of me, I wouldnt attempt the install. But I believe after I watched someone else do it then I could. Anyone want a student?

I was going to disassemble the motor, turbo, pistons, rods for them but they told me to let them do it because the head is aluminum and I need to be careful not to damage it and I could miss somethign that they could fix now and could go wrong in the future if i did it. At least thats the way I understood it.

what about in terms of just pulling everyting apart? most likely the head will be sent out for a complete port and polish and rebuild. i may wind up sending the block out as well for resleeving, etc. would it be worth it/more feasible to just take it apart myself so everything could be sent out? i'd also like to send out my damn turbo housing and manifold, since the SWAIN TECH coating is crackign like mad after only after 4-5 months of use.

so, opinions?
