Default Adding a seat heater for my girlfriend.. can I remove the cloth upholstery?

2000 Civic LX and we live in Boston. Does anyone have experience with removing the seat covers, getting them back on in good condition without sewing or modifying? I'd like to slide a thin heating element under the seat cover, bottom and back.

Any help much appreciated.

Alex

i'm pretty sure the cover is glued down. not sure if that'll affect anything or not for ya. i'd cut the threads in the from and slide it in from the front. that or you can pull the back of the seat off and go from the back. going from the back would look nicer if you can't sew very well.

I'm pretty sure the cloth is held down by tabs under the seat and all you need to do is peel it off the foam. That's how it is for most cars anyways...

Why not take the seat out and inspect it yourself?

I'd take the seat out and check but that would ruin the surprise for sure. Thanks guys.... so you think that they are clips underneath? That's what most cars use.

I'd call a local upholstery shop and explain your surprise gift to them. I'm sure they'll point you int eh right direction .

She's going to be psyched. Thanks for the tips guys. I took apart a Suzuki Swift GTI seat once with those rings.. at least I know what I'm dealing with now.

They're more like hooks that hold the cover on and in place. If you have a lot of patience and the right tools, it is definatly doable, just a real pain in the ***.

Just to close this thread, The install went flawlessy. The rear seat isn't too hard to get apart, just hog clamps and a couple of wrenches. Two hour job total.

You can buy hog ring pliers, and the hog rings on ebay for cheap. I took my cloth off, and replaced it with leather. Wasn't that hard, just takes patience.
