Sweet, I got an LS 5th gearset (pics)
Yay! I found a used LS tranny locally for 100 bucks. Kinda pricy for one with shredded final drive, but i don't care, because the 5th gearset is good. Here's the scoop, my Y1 tranny 4.266 FD, original 5th gear .870:1 LS= .742 Result: LS 5th 2850 at 60mph vs. 3300, 3050 at 65mph vs. 3600, 3300 at 70mph vs. 4000.
Tranny internals are cool, and much simpler in real life.

yay! Count those teeth. The LS 5th and the reverse idler, and a synchro assy.

If anyone wants to see more cool internal tranny pics let me know. The shift fork engagement mechanism is awesome.

Whats with the reverse idler? Its not needed for this swap right? Also, id change the input shaft bearing and seal if i were u. I guess i will be doing this to my Y1 soon...

Lol the reverse idler is just there, not needed. And i won't be using that tranny, just the gearset. Though i should change that bearing and seal on my Y1.

yeah, but i say screw automatics, valve bodies are nuts, they look like something the devil would make you design. I love the manual transmission.
