Well I just finished doing an oil change in my garage. Had the car up on jackstands and while the oil was draining I remembered the first time I did an oil change in my garage. I remember I was pretty worried about the jackstands not holding. So much so that I couldn't even get the drainplug loose cause I wouldn't go ALL the way under the car to get the proper leverage. LMFAO
I had to get my dad to come out and loosen it for me HAHAHA. Now years later it's obviously no sweat but I was wondering if anyone else had these same worries/fears the first time they did an oil change themselves while the car was on stands??
Maybe I'm alone on this
Oh P.S. I know I made a post about my car being in storage and doing EVERYTHING to get it ready but forgetting to do the oil change before hand and if I should leave it or not. What can I say I'm **** and didn't want to leave used oil in the motor for the winter even with less than 1000km's on it.

Yeah, totally. I still hate it. Fear of crushing death combined with claustrophobia. A family member (in-law) died last year when his tractor crushed him. It didn't kill him right away, but no one found him for a few hours, and he had passed by then.
Chock your wheels.
(and, I always have a spare jack or jackstand underneath a structural part of my car, tranny or something. Paranoid.)

Done that! Less fear of crushing death.
You're not draining your oil into the sewer, are you?

I completly agree with you on that one. I have 2 jacks and I use one under the back tow hook and one under the tranny(just in case) with the jackstands.
can never be too careful, even though I don't think about it as much anymore it's like a ritual to put them there.
dumping in the sewer is okay as long as no one see's you, remember it's not a crime if you don't get caught j/k

I have two big old lumps of wood (about 8 inches thick) that i cut in half and then cut each of the ends into a wedge shape and i just drive the car up onto them and i have enough room to slide under and undo the filter and oil pan bolt.....cheap and effective!

i never really think much of it
. when im working with my brother and he has the car on jackstands i'll often find myself scooting out of his way and under the wheel.

like you i dont care anymore, in fact sometimes i use a a 1500 pound motorcycle/atv jack as the only thing holding the car up while im under her
i know i am safe when the motorcycle/atv jack wont even lift up either mercedes we have to change a wheel

nah never had fears like that but sometimes i will just use the jack on the front radiator support bump to lift the car and get under it with no stands
but i like to take off the drivers wheel to get more room to work and i usually stick it under the drivers jack point just incase.......... id rather mess up a wheel than mess myself up haha

Since my POS Accord takes up half the garage, my dads power tools take up the other half, my HO train takes up the downstairs garage, I do it in the street on two stands. Scared to death someone will hit it.
Past 6 months:
future brother in laws S-10 smashed into and driver took off (in front of house)
across the streets mailbox ran over and knocked down (big brick mailbox) by drunk cheerleader
same happened to another mailbox on other street in neighborhood.

and i checked my oil last night in a dark parking lot (where an R does not belong) and i got paranoid about my abilities to know when to add oil...the needle had oil to the top, but at the bottom there was a think drop so i feel like i might be low.........i will add oil if needed on friday before driving, if you have advice, give it up!!!

I've seen ramps collapse before. Whenever I'm chaning mine I'm usually nervous when I first go under there, but after that its no big deal.
