Default installing front door speakers

hey all,

I want to install new front door speakers in a 1998 honda civic hx coupe. in order to install new speakers, do i need to take apart the whole door or can i just remove the front speaker grills. can anyone point me into the right direction with a link perhaps?

thanks

I put aftermarket 6.5"s in my front doors, and they were WAAAAAAY bigger in diameter than "6.5s" that Honda had in there, they were also about 3" deep. After cutting away most of the pocket behind the speaker grill, and making the hole in the sheet metal about 3/4" in diameter larger, and making a speaker ring to mount to the door to space the speaker out, they dropped right in. And the xovers fit nicely in the big plastic pocket in the moisture barrier just beneath where the manual door lock buttons are. I mounted mine with some 1/8" x 1" aluminum strips bolted to the door.

Basically........if you want to just "drop in" speakers, make absolutely sure you get the correct size and depth, or have a shop do it, but like me, I already had a nice set of 6.5" components I had used in cars previously, and I did what it took to get them in. I also had to run new 12g through the factory boot into the door for the power.

My 92 hatch has 5.25 inch speakers in the front. I don't know if all civics held the same size throughout the years though.

like mentioned before 6.5's will fit in the front door panel you might just have to do minor modification to get it to fit...(depth, screws) i have a set of 6.5's and they fit fine. Any audio place will tell you the same thing to install 6.5's.
