Default head gasket?

i have replaced all hoses radiator/heater hoses, and thermostat on my daily driver, and for some odd reason it spits antifreeze out when the cap is off the radiator, and you try to start it cold. Any suggestions?

all my other cars dont do this. After letting it run for 10 minutes (gauge says it is warm) i tried to go and drive it. It started over heating within a block. There is no oil in the antifreeze and no antifreeze in the oil. I was thinkin headgasket... but i am not sure.

yes, the fan turns on with no problems. it over heats and the heater goes from working to cold.

Does coolant return back into the resivor after your car has been driven? If it does I had a similar problem, and it was a blown head gasket! I suggest if your running a D16a6 block to replace the new headgasket with honda's optional part number, which is metal. The honda dealer parts guy suggested that to me, because it is a common problem with the old d16a6, because of the paper head gasket. I also suggest resurfacing the cylinder head, and have it pressure tested for cracks only cost 40.00 bucks, and save you a **** load of headaches. I hope this helps you with your problem..

the engine in there is an EW-1. it is an 85 civic 4 door. the resivor does fill up with boiling hot anti freeze. i am stumped, and dont really want to tear it down. New engine sounds easier....

Compression test will not help you on this one.. The engine will still have compression... Trust me, I have been through this problem... I can guarantee you its a head gasket.. It's not that hard to replace just get yourself a manual...

i did a compression test

cyc 1- 110
cyc 2- 140
cyc 3- 140
cyc 4- 160

i think something is wrong with cyc 1..... mostlikely a headgasket.

its def the head gasket. probally leaking on cylinder 1 then too. whats happening is your getting some exhaust into your coolant. the headgasket probally has a small leak. you could take it to your local mechanic to have it tested. there is a gauge that checks for exhaust in the coolant. it kinda sniffs it out. the thing has like purple fluid in it and it takes an air sample from the radiator with the car running and the cap off. if you have any sent of exhaust fumes from your rad. the chemical turns from purple to green. trust me i had the same problem with my teg. it just kept on push the coolant into my overflo. its pretty easy to change a head gasket though. maybe a days work. good luck

fill the car back up with water and run it till its hot again. feel the upper radiator hose. if its hard like a rock and feels like it will burst, there is nothing but cylinder compression that can do that, the water pump wont, and the headgasket is blown.

immediately pull all 4 plugs and see which one has water on it.
