For my 2001 Prelude a well-known shop replaced all the belts and the water pump.
Now the engine vibrates at the crankshaft frequency (i.e. it's not misfiring cylinders or broken drive shafts) at all rpms. It's so bad that it feels like the flywheel or crankshaft is out of balance. I know how smooth the engine had been before this service. Now it is much, much worse.
From reading the post here, I suspect the balance shaft was not aligned when the new belts were installed.
My question is: can someone recommand a shop that is experienced in rebuilt H22A4 engines to look through this and see what's wrong? I'm hesistent to take the car back to the same shop.
Look at it this way: if you can help me out now, for a reasonable labor charge, I will most likely be your future customer when it comes time to rebuild this engine.
Earl, can you see this post?
This is my daily commuter car, with a child seat at the right rear position (hint...), spare tire removed, trunk insulation removed, running on Amsoil. As you can see, I don't plan to mod this car until I get an Acura RL to transport my family. But that hasn't happened yet, and so, I need my daily transport to be reliable.
Having the engine shake like that won't last more than a few hundred miles.
And the ENTIRE engine will be damanged by vibrations like that!

definitely take it back and make them fix it...
as hawk said, you really dont need the balance shafts, but im sure since youre worried about the vibrations you are gonna want them.....
the vibration with the belt on and misaligned
is greater than
the vibration with the belt off
which is greater than
the belt on and working properly
im not sure about how necessary it is still, no matter what people say, internal balance is a BIG issue for bearings and i am not trying to ruin an h22a that has 30k on it and runs perfectly......
i have heard that its good for a few hp, but it may have the same driving effect as a lighter flywheel....just easier for the engine to accelerate

I'm not positive on the h22a4's,
but on the h22a1's (obd1 ludes)
there is a hole where you are supposed to
put a 6x100mm tool (or a screwdriver
)
through the balance shaft to keep it aligned
when you put the balance shaft belt back on.
Maybe they skipped this procedure?

Take it to AutoWave in Huntington Beach if you don't want to go back to the shop that screwed you up. 714.841.2433

If they screwed up a simple procedure like that, I wouldn't have had them fix it either. I would submit the bill to them and see if they will cover some of it.
