Picked up the car this weekend, finally
'91 Civic STD hatch. Such a lovely designation. Finally picked it up, took me longer to sell the Corrado then I thought. So am I right, its a D15b1 maybe? 1.5l 16v with DPFI. Its a regular rocket ship. It doesn't drive too bad, the gearing is sooo loooong though, its going ot take some getting used to. That and no tach. so what are some popular swaps for this car? I'm new to hondas. I'll try to get a pick up eventually.
You had a G60? I wish I could get my friend to sell his, but he's a die-hard VW fan.
A good swap is an Si engine & trans. You have to convert it from dual-point to multi-point fuel injection, but it's not too difficult. That will get you some nice short gears and ~30+ whp. Other popular bolt in swaps are DOHC ZC's and SOHC VTEC engines from later years. Could also keep your stock short block and bolt on a VTEC head.
You can also get an Si, LX, or EX gauge cluster or any CRX gauge cluster, Those will have tach's and are a direct plug in replacement as long as you get one with the same shape (90-91 for your car).

i would just throw in a d16a6 engine and tranny and pretty much be done with it, maybe add i/h/e...
btw if you want to do a swap you need to upgrade your knuckles/brakes to dx/si which isnt too bad and will give you more braking power as well...

Cool, thanks for the info. Haven't really decided what my plans are for this car, either go all out with it or just minor stuff and save up for something fun like a supra or a vr-t corrado project or something.
What does the ZC engine code indicate? There's probably an FAQ thing about all the engine codes someplace, just haven't found it yet. Or if not, there should be, too many damn honda engines

well the ZC comes in many flavors, but as for 88-91 hondas generally the ZC everyone speaks about is a 1.6L DOHC engine. Think of it as a DOHC Si engine. Non-VTEC, but MPFI. Also a very good and easy swap for these cars.
ZC is considered a D-Series motor because D-Series parts bolt onto it. If you're looking for a little more than the Si D16A6 engine, this may be a good choice.
US Si Engine (the D16A6) = ~105hp
Jap Si Engine (the ZC) = ~130hp
You'll have to usually pay shipping however, and the ZC runs a little more expensive than the Si because you can find the D16A6's lying around from other people's swaps. You'll pay 300-400 for a good condition complete Si engine/tranny/ECU w/ the trimmings while you'll pay upwards of 700-800 for a ZC engine/tranny/ECU then have to pay to ship it. Both swaps are equally easy to do. Both are direct bolt in, with the exception of the MPFI wiring, which is easy.

How much harder is it to do, say, a b18 swap? Does hasport make mounts to do that in our cars? Wiring isn't really a problem for me, I spent 3 years in electrical engineering in college. Just trying to explore my options and get familiar with things.
Hasport does make mounts for our car. My hatch is a STD too..i just got a B16 swap (DOHC Vtec 160hp) done about a month ago and i love the car. It took a couple miles to get used to the gearing. Now i can start off in 2nd gear lolz...nearly impossible on my old trans.

Nice...if i was going to consider a swap, I'd probably look for one to put me in that power range (stock setup anyway) then look at i/h/e and all that fun stuff, pnp, up the cr, or even FI in the future (far future).
