B20 Vtec Need some help
I am interested in building a b20 vtec with a GSR head. Head is rebuilt with no porting. Will be putting skunk2 valve train. Need some suggestins on Cams.
Has anyone built a b20 vtec? If so anyproblems? Anything that I should watch for? Will be a street car, so car needs to be reliable. Will be using stock bottom end with ARP head stud kit. Currently using Type R cams.

all i can tell you is. when it comes time to put it back together. don't skimp out and use the reg. b20 head gasdget....use the (b20VTEC) 300$ one...from honda....make sure it's the vtec one....iyou'll hate yourself if you got a b20vtec that doesn't work...good luck...pics when you get it going.

Doesnt make sense to have a gsr head with type-r cams and skunk2 valve train when the stock block can only handle like 7000rpm..
Get the b20vtec/lsvtec kit from GE..Lets you build the motor without takin it to a machine shop..
For the block you should get a b-series vtec oil pump and water pump..also some arp rod bolts ,,and a gsr girdle..If you have the extra money get the bottom end balanced because its the vibration that kills the b18a/b and b20 motors..
This is not a cheap motor to build if you want it to be done right and handle high revs..Think about that before you start it..
I built a stock block lsvtec for my friend about a year ago using vtec oil pump/water pump ..Ge lsvtec kit and arp rod bolts,,b18a block/b17a head..
With a msd ignition set the rev limit for 8000rpm to be safe since the block cant rev high when stock and he beats on it treats it like **** and its still goin good for allitle over a year now..

I have a b20/vtec and i rev it to 8000 grand all day. With the oil pump, I am pretty sure that it is the same part number as a V-tec one in the first place so i dont think you need to replace it.
Thanks for the input, I will do some more research d see what the budget has in store for me.
I have not yet purchased the b20. I am running my GSR with type r cams. I am not intereseted in a really fast track car. I just want something reliable and if someone pulls up to me I want to give it to him.
I want N/A no turbo for me. Too many cops pulling over cars and taking of the road here.
What is your opinion with building b20 vtec. What should be installed onto the bottom end and waht kind of valve train and cams?
A friend of mine currently has a b20 vtec in his with stock bottom end and type r head with skunk valve train and cams. His seems to work pretty good.
Thanks for the advice

Have you thought about running the Buddy Club 3's for your CRVTEC? I was playing with the idea of going CRVTEC myself, and switching out my S2S1 cams for the BC3's. IIRC the BC3's are supposed to have really good midrange. I wonder how a CRVTEC w/ BC3 would look compared to a S2 built CRVTEC.

B20 Vtec headgasket from HONDA??? When did honda start endorsing the B20 Vtec and start to make a head gasket. Ive put two B20 Vtecs in 88-91's both with the stock JDM 2 layer Metal Head Gasket and both currently have 30,000 miles on them with no problems. Just make sure you get a metal head gasket, the thickness is up to you.

im pretty sure he means use a new OEM headgasket for a B20. You will need to get one of the oil holes enlarged or something like that. I used the Golden Eagle Headgasket which is preped for the vtec head and non vtec block. Dont be a newb to the forum and start hatin. Respect your elders.
get the blox cams ive heard nothing but great things about them. Look on import builders website for dyno results
