Default crx idles too high?? WTF?

ok i have a 90 crx dx, dual point. it idles at 1,300 rpms. i have the idle screw all the way out, the timing is set perfect, and no check engine codes. i recently put a newer FICV on and before i was running my broken one unpluged and ti would idle at about 1000rpms.

what am i missing?

Check for vacuum leaks, bad intake manifold gasket or bad throttle body gasket. When the weather gets cold, it will **** with your cold idle. Does it idle like this all the time? Did you make sure all sensors are working properly? Also, put your idle screw in all the way and then back it out slowly to see how the idle changes.

already checked for vacuum leaks, has brand new intake man and tb gaskets, just put them on yesterday. all sensors are working properly, hence the no check engine light. it idles like this all the time, hot or cold. i cant get it lower than 1300rpms.

taking the idle screw out doesnt solve the idle problem, it just covers it up. you're problem lies elsewhere.

My car idles at 1000 or so, but it is running rich because my FPR is messed up. I'm at about 43 psi at idle. It idled at 700 before I started running rich, I'm just too lazy to fix it . That may have something to do with something.. I'll fix my fuel pressure and I'll let you know if it helped anything. Just figured it might be the same thing since you're burning oil...

BTW, what part of MO are you from?

check youyr iacv maybe take it off and spray some chem b-12 in there. let it soak in for 10-15 mintues and bolt it back up. it worked for me when my idle was high. to check if it is your iacv before you even tgake it off, take off the intake pipe and you will see a small hole in the throttle body befor the the butterly valve. there is a hole on top and one on bottom. the top one is iacv. if you plug this hole with your finger and the car dies, then its probably the iacv. if it doesnt die then its definitely a vac leak. you can also check to see if the iacv gasket is ok.

Just wondering because I'm in NW Ark. Always good too see some locals on here, but you aren't that close... Oh well.

BTW, my CRX (that idles high) has all new vacuum lines everywhere that are even zip tied lol. I don' t think my lines are leaking .

you takeoff the 4 philips head screws, and cover the holes inside the throttle body thing, if you can even call it that. see if covering one of the outputs makes the car idle closer to what you want, it can help to isolate a pesky idle issue.

while the car is running spray carb cleaner on the vac lines, if the engine revs, you have a vac leak. hell if your really determined you can replace all the vac lines anyway... you know?

good luck. idle issues are better then not starting at all issues, right?

you could push it off a cliff like doublethink and I almost did today trying to solve the same problem in my girlfriend's 90 DX.

I'm picking up another EACV tomorrow to see if that'll fix the problem. Try cleaning out the EACV with Carb cleaner. May solve it.

i already tried a new eacv and carb cleaner.

BUT i believe i found the culprit of all my problems. well i was at autozone picking up a balljoint (for $12!) and i left to goto my car and it wouldnt start. come to find out it was throwing code 16, meaning fuel injector. i tested them and the main fuel injector isnt working, but its getting voltage. its done this before, a couple times it wouldnt start, but eventually got it going.

im hoping by replacing that fuel injector it will fix the following problems... stuttering on take off, erratic idling, idling too high. these problems didnt happen all the time, but they happened. so i guess that fuel inj. was on the verge of going on and now tonight, it gave out completly.
