Default 192k miles on my LS motor.. should i get LS/VTEC?

I have a 1992 integra LS with 192k miles on the engine. Would it be worth it to put a vtec head and do LS/Vtec? Or should I just try to find a newer LS engine with less miles?

Thanks.

Well.. I'm trying to spend less then $2000 if possible. That's one of the biggest reasons I am looking into LS/Vtec is because it's supposed to be a fairly cheap project. Even with me buying a newer LS engine it will still be cheaper then getting a GS-R or type-R engine.

Well, now my new question is, if i get a newer LS engine (94+) would it bolt right in my car? Will any modifications need to be made? I would actually rather have a seperate LS engine to work on outside of the car. That way I can drive and have the other LS engine to build up and work on without having to remove my engine all the time.

its better to have a spare engine to work. And yes a 94-01 b18b will fit in your integra, you just have to reuse mounts and it will bolt right up.

dont' mind them....with 2 grand ls/vtec is a doable. You are basically rebuilding your whole block and replacing your head.....milage is poop in this case as long as there is no major damage

yea man...totally agree..rehone, new/ higher cr piston, stronger rod, stronger bolts, new bearing, new head, gasket and you basically have a new motor. You might have to wait on getting a shorter gear tranny untill you have some more money though.

I was thinking of getting a b16 tranny pretty soon here. A friend of mine is selling one to me for $200 so I think i'm going to grab that one.

So, you think it would be ok to keep this 192k mile motor and do the LS/Vtec? I'm just worried that the motor will crap on me in a year or two with that many miles.

before you make any decision, make sure that the walls are not crack, etc...don't worry much if there is a bit of scaring oh the wall. They can be rehone/ overbone

BTW....192k is not that bad on a honda motor given that you don't abuse it. I rip apart a motor that was 233K and it had bearly any damages to the wall....it depends though

Leak down and compression tests are key.
I'd say do a rebuild first.

first off im all for ls/vtec im building one rite now,you have 2k to spend I have seen entire gsr swaps for 1800 seems to be the going price now...or rebuild your motor and go ls/vtec, whatever you do dont just slap the vtec head on or whatever parts original that were just holding on are gonna be subject to more forces, that cant be good.

thepartstrader.com are 2 places i have seen gsr swaps for 1800 or even a built ls/vtec

I'd rather build it up myself. Thanks
