how do you know if you need a new clutch ?
yeah i just wanna know how do you determine if you need a new clutch? like does it get hard to shift gears and when your on the clutch does it make a scratching disc sound? please help, i appreiciate it, thanks.
I believe it will start to slip, and the pedal engagement point is really high, if you are grinding gears.... that might be pretty serious...
Hahah talk about needing a new clutch, My stock clutch have about 70k miles on it and it slipping like crazy because im making well over 200 wtq. 2nd doesnt slip a lot but damn once i shift to third the rpm raise to redline and i didnt gain much MPH lol.

i thought i was just driving a bone stock civic?

Everyone here pretty much said it all. For me I would drive on the highway and as I went up a slight hill and press the accelerator harder, I would hear the engine RPM increase with no speed increase, and in fact a loss of speed. Believe me, you will know it when it happens. The symptoms are unmistakable!

What happens typically is that the clutch disc, which is usually a disc that looks similar to a brake rotor, wears out. It has a similar material on it like a brake pad. This disc is pressed against the flywheel of your engine and the power from your engine is then transmitted to your transmission to which the clutch plate and pressure plate are mounted. The pressure plate uses metal springs to apply constant pressure to the clutch disc when your foot is off the clutch. When you press the clutch pedal 2 hydraulic cylinders (master and slave) act together to release the pressure on the pressure plate, thereby disengaging the power betwen engine and transmission so you can shift gears without having power applied to the transmission.
WHat happens when the disc slips is usuallly that the clutch plate friction surface wears down, like a brake pad would, then the pressure plate is unable to apply a strong enough pressure to the the clutch plate to prevent hte flywheel from slipping off it. This is the slip you feel, especially when you accelerate. Sometimes the springs in the pressure plate can get weak too and the force from the pressure plate is too weak to hold the clutch plate against the flywheel. This why since it is a lot of work taking the trans. out many people like to buy the "clutch kit" which includes the clutch plate, pressure plate, pilot bearing (releases the pressure to the disc), and an allignment tool to align the cluch disc to flywheel input on the trans. shaft. I've only done one clutch.
It is not all that hard installing the clutch, the pain is that taking the trans. and drive shafts out. It is still worth it as your save about $500 and learn a lot. Have fun!

No flaws in my clutch its hard as a rock and my gears never scratch unless im power racing and I dont let the clutch out far enough thats only if im power shifting though.
