Roof Panel Replacement link (YES, I did a search...)
I give up. There was a great thread on a guy who replaced the roof center section of his CRX, but I cannot seem to find it.
Any help?
Any help?
I think this is one of the best ones, but it's not a CRX:

Thanks, but I'm looking to replace the whole roof panel, not just fill the sunroof hole. There was a great photo thread where someone took out the center section from an Si (with sunroof) and replaced the whole panel, between the drip channels, with a standard CRX roof without a sunroof. Very cleanly done.
I'm not actually trying to fill a sunroof hole as much as repair a bit of roof damage. You know, the kind where the car rolls a little too far...

that would be cool.. to bad i'm to broke. I have parts to fix mine, just no money. I have found so many little things that broke in the rollover.. I was hoping for a roof and fender replacement.
note to self: make friends with guys that work at a body shop.

ummmm pull the drain lines, look for spot welds in there, drill them out, not really sure how many there are though, put the new roof on and sport weld it back on.
LOL im sure you already new about all that though.
John did you try looking in the apperance forum? or making a post in there? Guys in there could point you in the right direction.

basically what he said.
you will obviuosly need to remove the windsheild
Some cars are better done on jack stands than sitting on the tires. If you drill out the spot welds ect and find a new panel kiwi can weld it in for you for cheap.

Kiwi,
Do you have any experience brazing just a section of the roof from a non-moon roof car over the hole left behind from a moon roof? My brother-in-law has a cut section of roof from a 95 DX coupe, and I'm figuring if I cut it to the same shape as the hole, only 2-3 inches oversize, I can have someone braze it on to my EX coupe. Know anyone in the Anaheim area that could do this? I'd rather not rivet it, but will if it gets too expensive the other way.

Yes I have done that before, but as SANS says... It's not really the way to do it, and it is a pain in the *** just trying to get the roof to look untouched.
It's actually easier and cheaper to put in another center roof section.

I am in the middle of doing the same thing right now. Just did part of it today. This is my
first time doing this. So far its not that bad. Since I have the roof off I will touch up my
roll-cage and paint the interior.

For ITA and HC you must close the sunroof hole in one of 3 ways-the last one (replace the entire panel with one from a DX) is the best solution overall. The downside is that you must remove everything under it and the hatch and windshield to accomplish this project correctly. BTW: get a set of the rubber channel pieces as the old ones will get bent up. One other thing-you will need a new squirter nozzle as it is nearly impossible to salvage the old one (required for both race classes). It does give one a great opportunity to clean up a lot
. Price of a panel from the dealer was $308 list when I did mine. Labor is whatever the market is.
