Default h22a oil problem?

hey what's goin on. i have an h22a that's givin me some problems. vtec hardly ever wants to work. i have went over everything and i have come to the conclusion to it being oil related. the electrical part is working correctly and out of my concerns now. with the honda filter vtec doesn't want to work. i had changed my oil and used a hastings and surprisingly vtec nearly worked every time for a week or so with the exception of twice of cutting in and out. i had switched back to the honda filter cause i try to use everything oem except aftermarket goodies and it went back to not working. there is a noise coming from what i think is in the water pump/oil pump area but it sounds like a bad alternater bearing. im guessing it is the oil pump but my dad has worked on hydrollics for nearly 30 years which deals with oil and everything with it and he was telling me that he has never heard a noise like this from an oil pump. he also had agreed that it sounded like the water pump or alt bearings going out. any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. i don't have too much cash to just go out and try a new oil pump because of christmas and all. i still am leaning towards the oil pump though. i have 35 psi of oil at idle then slightly less at the pressure switch. is it 55 psi that i need for vtec to engage? thanks alot everyone for your help in advance.

could very well be a bad oil pressure switch that can cause it to work whenever it wants....do you have any check engine lights?

Aren't OEM honda filters just fram? If you really want the best for your lude go with a Mobil 1 or hamp filter. And yes like Mr. Fiend says it could be your op switch.

Just incase it is your oil pump, from hondaautomotiveparts.com i purchased the oil pump and along with everything else needed for the install which came out to about $240 shipped.

no im not loosing oil. the only thing i can think of would be the oil pump or the oil pan. the pan is bashed up alittle. anyone know how close the pick up is to the bottom of the pan and if anyone else has ran into this same situation. i don't think it's bad enough but it could be just enough to block the pick up reducing flow and pressure. the rattly noise could be sounds traveling through the crank since my clutch is goin out. or it could just be my pump. could be worn on the sides of the housing inside causing a pressure drop. i know it's not electrical though. thanks.
