when i started my car today, when i let go of the key it shut off, so i tried again and then it started right up but when i slipped it in drive(auto) it cut right back off. so i started it in neutral and no problems but when i try from park to drive it cuts off? whats the problem?
its a switch that keeps you from starting the car in gear. the car can only be in neutral or park to engage the starter. so it wont crank in reverse or any drive gears.
Neutral safety switch won't make it stall. It's only for the starter itself.
Can you make it happen by wiggling the key? Or holding it partway between 'ON' & 'START'? If so, the electrical part of the ignition switch is flaky. Otherwise, look at main relay or else you'll have to do some wire-chasing with a DMM.
