Convert to RHD
How much would it cost to just get the inside swapped over to a right hand drive application? How much work will it be and anything special need to be done? Also where can I go to find just the dash and such to convert it? I already tried eBay but no luck
Thanks

you do realize that this is the most pointless waste of money u can find? Think about every time u want to go thru a drive thru, atm, toll booth. you're gonna have to hack the hell out of your firewall, get an entirely new dash, move your redals, all the stuff that leads into the car. if you do for some reason want a RHD car, your better off just ordering a crx from japan, in the end it will cost about the same amount.
Lol, why is it everytime someone asks about a rhd car, or converting to rhd, people have to say how pointless or stupid the idea is? Will it be impratical?? Possibly, but then again so is a 12 mile per gallon chippen "mugen" ecu. Everyone has their own ideas about how they want their car.....
As far as I know, you would need an entire rhd clip. You will need the dashboard, wiring harness (both dash and engine), firewall, pedal assembly, etc. I am also looking into doing a rhd conversion on my 91 ef9...I'll let you know if I find out any more info...

There is a local guy that will do it for about $2000 if you supply the JDM front end for the donor firewall, dash, etc.
BTW...my friend works at jiffy lube and had this come in the other day...he has a photo on his camera phone, I never laughed so hard:
A kid rolls up in a Civic that is RHD so Steven's all googly eyed. Once the kid gets closer, the horror sets in. No dash. Ghetto RHD. He's set up a pulley system to move the steering wheel to the passenger side and some exended torsion rods to activate his pedals...his steering column and real pedals are still where the passenger would sit. There's a huge sheave still on the left side attached to the column and a huge belt running from said sheave to the rigged up steering wheel.
I really want to see this abortion in person.

Why convert to RHD when you can just buy a real RHD SiR and have it imported for about the same amount, i'm not ******* RHD conversions it's just to me it seems silly to hack up your existing car when you could just buy one that came factory RHD. But if that's what you wanna do go for it, just be sure dto do all your research before you start buying parts.
For some reason you people say you can buy a real deal RHD ef for the same cost of converting, yet i have never seen an ef shell or even full car for less than 5-6k.
yea they run up over 6 grand to buy, then you have to get it over here
but it's still probably less for more. You'll get a much cooler car and a lot less headaches then hacking up your USDM.

because its a waste of time, enless you are driving on the left hand side of the road, it doesn't make sense, why would you make your car hard to drive???

On top of that, the mod you do will not hold its value. Engines and related parts hold SOME value, not much, but I just see it as a good way to waste $6000.
p.s. if you go thru the drive thru at the jack in the box backwards, they get mad. Even if you did have a rhd, the old lady working the register at 2.30 in the morning isn't gona give a ****.

Well then your not looking in the right places, I can get a genuine RHD SiR for less then $2,000 in Japan + $500 to ship it to Canada, get a title up there and then bring it down to cali and wait a while and get the title here.
Oh and CR-X's in Japan do not sell for $6,000, you would have to be an idiot to pay that much.

It's useless, and it's fake. Just like sticking on a SiR badge.
If the car wasn't RHD from factory, it shouldn't EVER be.
You obviously don't realise how stupid it is until you see the european cars, just like the SiR, with a LHD setup.
Worse then a shelby cobra kitcar IMHO.

We are talking about old cars here, some 15 years old or older, Im definately not holding onto it for its value.
And Im pretty sure that the cost will not be 6k. Even if you buy a complete front clip for 3k, and did the work yourself, you're still way under your 6k figure.

The same reason I dont go buy that tiite "pre-built" rice rocket from eBay or somebody elses turbo-gsr hatch. I enjoy working on my car myself. It would be nice to import a Si-R form Japan, but I think your numbers are way off, at least the shipping anyway. If you have a hook up that will ship a complete car from Japan to Canada, let us know, Im sure Im not the only one that would take advantage.

Explain how its a waste of time?? Everyone likes to say it, but how? If thats how people want to build their car....hows it wasting time? Is doing a JDM front conversion a waste of time? What about a JDM b16 swap? Why dont these people also just import a Si-R from Japan and quit wasting their time doing front end and engine swaps??

So.... is a DX or Std with a B16 "fake" What about a Si with a GSR swap, is that "fake" too? So....if your car wasn't equipped with a b16 from the factory, should it never be in there?
And yes, some EDM cars are LHD, but we were talking JDM anyway....
And yes, Shelby kitcars are lame....all kitcars are lame....

so i guess all those honda tuners are doing it to make their car fake.. us market did not come with b16 b18 k20 b20 zc zc dohc vtec... so if it was supplied from the factory don't chop into it and don't modify it??
then what is this forum for if not to make your ride your own frankinstein? Some look ghetto, some look awesome. some do it for personal pleasure
, some do it to get other's approval
. IMHO if you cannot help, don't put others down for wanting to do something you don't agree with. Don't call it waste of time.. typing on to say that it's waste of time is waste of your time

hey dont flame him bc hes speaking the truth. an engine does something for a car. bigger brakes does something for a car.
that mod does nothing for the car. at all. you cant even enter any jdm shows bc youll get laughed off when they pop the hood even if you try hard to hide all the usdm cutouts on the drivers side.
so whats the point, if you want jdm, get one.
also, god help you if your insurance company ever inspects your car after you go through all that. try searching on here for how much RHD insurance is for jdm cars. not fun, most insurance comapnies will not do it at all.
so basically this is the most impractical, fake thing you could ever do to a car thats from the US, which is SETI20's point.
my car has a b16 bc i wanted to go faster, not bc i wanted to pretend to be japanese. please explain the benefits of all this work? being the only one whos done it, thats not gonna happen so then what? your gonna end up being another one of those kids that did a rhd swap, and it wont hold its value and youll sell it a few years from now for like 1500 bucks like someone with an integra front end on a crx. yey, good for you, now part out the car bc you killed it.
sorry to seam harsh, or not supportive of your idea, and hell, if you want to do it, then get a full clip from one of the importers and weld the **** out of your car, then start the lengthy process of moving over pedals and other things. with the thousands you spend you could be a full second faster on the 1/4 mile... etc.

would prob be better to import a RHD, but you concidered importing from the uk. You can buy a mint condition example for $1200. Import cost will be cheeper(i think) than japan as its closer, plus the speedo will be MPH rather than KPH (not that thats expensive to change!!) Hope this helps you to decite what to do dro

Actually my numbers aren't off I know a guy in Canada that imports CR-X's all the time and then resells them to american and canadian buyers, So I asked him how much does it usually cost to import one over and he said it's usually $500 with insurance. I didn't believe him at first but in the last month he has imported about 3 CR-X's. So obviously it doesn't cost that much.
But if someone wants to do a RHD conversion instead of buying a RHD car and getting it imported i'm all for that, personally I wouldn't. I was giving an option and maby a cheaper way if there just looking to sit on the right hand side.

take the time to look up importing a crx from japan or the uk. the car will cost i'd say around 2000 in really nice condition with possibly some nice JDM wheels and such, then 900 shipping. sell your current ride and depending on the condition get around that much, and get a real RHD crx, not one that has a firewall that looks like its made of chicken wire. i like custom work on cars, i think it puts the owner a lot closer to the car, but to custom fabricate a car takign that much time and money, with no positive mechanical, speed, or visual gains, i find it a little funny.
