Rear hatch wont lock

i have a 00 ls and the hatch wont lock when i try to shut it. like you can lift the hatch up after its shut. any one have this problem?

I kinda have the problem, if I don't close the hatch hard enough. Is it just not latching, or closing all the way, or is it not even engage?

yeah i kept closing it but then after a lil bit of elbow grease, i forced that bitch down.
