Default Popping and turning (Don't dyou dare say axle!)

I want opinions on popping and turning when it is NOT a bad axle.

Here's the deal, I have 2 good axles but I had "klunking" noise on the right side over not-so-smooth pavement. The problem was a ball joint... I don't know which ball joint because I replaced all 3. After I replaced all 3 ball joints the "clunking" was gone but now when I turn sharply and in both directions there is a popping or a "knocking" rap tap tapping from that corner of my car.

It happened after I replaced the ball joints so my question is... do ball joints makes this kind of noise? I have checked my work and everything looks good.

Any help would be appreciated.

try your sway links. i had the same problem with a Saturn LS 300... replaced the lt. front strut, intermediate shaft(there's a bulletin on that) and it was the freaking left sway link bushing... yeah my service manager wasn't happy after he spend all that money!

good luck!

Don't rule out the inner steering rack ends. These are the balljoints under the boots on the steering rack. If those boots get torn, those things will wear out. Any unwanted play in the steering will make noises...

For the question about the shafts.. I have a b16 with hasport mounts with teg int. shaft and axles and i've had them for 2 years and they have never been a problem.. this noise ONLY appeared AFTER I changed the 3 ball joints... the Lower, the Upper and the Tie rod.

I guess I could switch out tie rods and see if that's the culprit and I have had the boot get torn on the rack causing me to need to replace the bushing in the steering rack but I don't think it's the inner joint (I will check it next time I get the time).

As for the person that said sway links... that could be a certain possibility. I have the ES bushings in the sway links and they are over 2 years old (still in great condition upon inspection) but they will wear "together" a certain way and after I took them apart and put them back together that could certainly be causing it... Good deduction..

Ok, This gives me something to look forward to. I actually wouldn't mind it if it was the axle because those can be fixed really easy and I can do it in 30 minutes... The "mystery" sounds that can drive me crazy.
