Ok guys...warning about remote starts. I finished hooking mine up yesterday. Went over to a friends house to pick him up to grab FnF dvd. Pull up all quiet, knock on the door, and he comes out. He closes the door slowly not to wake the parents and we go to leave. I click my button to disable my alarm and it beeps. I'm thinking I'm gonna be all smooth and what not, so I hit the remote start button on my alarm. Beep Beep, wroooooommmm.............

BAM!!!

My dumbsh*t self left the car in first when I parked .....yeah, I'm not lying.... Well there goes the idea of not waking the parents. Luckally I jumped in it fast enuf to hit the clutch and the brakes....add to my CRX's kill list:

4x4 post holding a porch roof on
1" PVC pipe (Shooting up under my car making me think I busted my radiator)
Rubbermade trash can
Wooden fence

On a lighter note, I didn't bust my radiator, my bra got a small scrape on it, and it's being repaired tomorrow....

Warning to all.....MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE REMOTE START CLUTCH SAFETY SWITCH...OR ELSE!!!

Thats why it's illegal for shops to install them on standard cars where i live.

 

I doubt that it's illegal for any shops to install them. But some shops might say it's illegal so you don't get mad at them for not wanting to install it for liability reasons.

There is no reason why it would be illegal though..

the local Good Guys wouldn't install mine on my RX-7. So I had to take it to a smaller shop to get it installed. With mine, you HAVE to be in neutral and arm the remote start feature BEFORE you take your key out of the ignition. But I would have to be in neutral anyways, for my turbo timer, so it's no big deal for me.

Ive done that 3 times mang, remote starts are illegal to install on manual transmision cars. Well at least in my area it is, its really dangerous and even if your transmission is engaged in the tiniest bit that sucka will jump. Now i make sure my parking brake is up all the way, one time i had to run across the street to my car because it was driving away down my street!

 

my bro works in a shop here, you cannot install a remote start legally in a 5 speed. Aftermarket companys make safety switches but the people that make the alarms don't. My bro put his car through my parents garage after the switch failed to notice that the car was in first.

Hmmm Turbo Timers and remote starts... a match made in heaven.... For one to work, it guarantees the other is going to as well.

Turbo timer insures that the car is out of gear, so to say..

 

Guess you didn't set the parking brake either?????

With the parking brake set, car in gear, engine will not crank enough to fire off.
Might fry a starter though.

mine did, it wont actually turn on all the way but it will buck and take off a good couple of feet, which is enough to maim someone or plow into a wall.

Had a friend who almost ran over his girl with remote start, def. can be dangerous if you leave it in gear.

even if you pull the ebrake to the point of breaking it off, your car will be able to pull itself around far enough to do more damage than you can shake a stick at (?) i used to be an installer for a shop and we would not do it on sticks, clifford finally came out with a system that was designed for a stick, but lets just say i installed one or two for friends and we literally sat in the parking lot (with him in the car) and remote started it in gear with the brake up and it will move! You have a frickin honda imagine a car that has 3 times the tq you still think it wont move! Remote starts are cool if you live in an area where you can warm up your car and stuff, but if its not an auto dont waste your time. it will bite you at some point (as demonstrated) some sooner than others.

that sucks as did the clifford safty switch. i woork in a shop and we cant do 5speed remote instales for liability reasons. BUt i have remote start in my car and it will not start with it in gear or the p.break down, i in 1.5 years have never had a problem wit it and it is home made and much better than anything that is made after market as they use magnets and i used springs and a input on the alarm that shuts RS off when grounded. I also put a buzzer is that buzzes if i dont take it out of gear and open the door that has helped to remind me to take it out."""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""')))) ))))))))))))))))))))0

 

Need the buzzer...need it bad.... What did you use and how did you hook it up? I want to do that tomorrow....kinda like leaving your headlights on when you get out of the car. In my old 89 rustang, it had a little ding ding when the lights were on...not on my faithful CRX though...
