I have an opportunity to buy a 90 maroon crx dx auto for $600
motor is worthless, but what ive seen of it so far, its quite clean. one small area of surface rust on one rear 1/4. needs one fender which i have, and the hood needs to be painted. I always like the maroon ones, you dont see anyone do them up right these days.
I currently have a completely rusted out red 88 dx with a y8, im looking to swap everything out into a clean crx.
1. Do 88-89 fenders/corner lights swap over to a 90-91? if so will the 90 trim fit on the 88 fenders?
2. Is it worth it for me to change it over to 5speed, knowing that I already have a different si tranny and shift linkage laying around?
Im quite intrigued by this car, except for the fact its auto , otherwise id have bought it today. I think the main clincher was when I got in my car today with aftermarket pop-up sunroof, and a large stream of rain water soaks my head...

well if you wanna take on the project, of getting rid of that rust, weather proofing, engine swaping and converting to stick, plus any other problems it might have then sure. Dont let a low price fool you, think of...all other problems that are going to occure, and the money that might cost you. Dont forget passing smog, registration etc. I personally dont want anything with rust, but thats because Ive had a bad experience with it. Sounds like yours isnt too bad just remeber tho, your buying another hole to put more money into.
Good luck hope you get a good one

all good points
full description of my car
- Front Bumper held up by zip ties
- Rear Bumper barely on because of rear 1/4 rust
- Both rear 1/4s are completely rusted out from the back of the door to the back bumper.
- frame has multiple holes
- recently got the soft ball size hole and the volleyball sized hole that were in my back trunk rig welded.
- spot of rust above the side molding on the horizontal part of the body.
The body is completely shot and not worth repair/paint. Its currently 3 shades of red, if not more, and im highly intrigued by the maroon crx. If i can get the mechanic whos selling me the car to pull the motor and swwap it over for cheap, ill do it up. as for the smog issue, i hope i can pass with catalytic converter, obd2 motor with obd0.

if yer that set on it, buy it. but you can find better examples if you hold out a bit. i just picked up an absolutely rust free minty rolling chassis in jersey (thanks greg!) a month or so ago.
the maroon car still needs body work, and is the worst model rex for a swap (heavy year dx means heavy w/ crappy trim, no mpfi, auto...i could go on here), which makes it a less than perfect candidate.
you could probably find a used chevy beretta locally today for 600- still shouldn't buy it.

true, but im really not looking for all out speed right now. more for a clean car that i wont be embarassed to show people.
BEcause my car is an 88, I want to transfer over the pillar seat belts. Gut out the A/C, but the real point is, it doesnt have a sunroof or moonroof, thats all i care about, i felt the whole car up, clean as ****.
