how do you tell if a older body prelude has a h22? please help
no i know how to say if you look on the valve cover. i just wanted to know how do you say by looking at the body, or what models have a h22. from 92-96 how can you tell from the body.
you cant because most 4th gens that are si's have the h22 swapped in them anyways...so you never know...but the vtec models come labeled vtec and didnt have the 7 spoke rims...theres other small differences

you cannot tell by the wheels alone because in 94 they changed them on the Si and VTEC models to the lighter 9 spoke design. Look for the 7th speaker between the backseats as well.

other than H22 on the engien, all VTEC's have leather seats, although some Si's do as well, there is also the little VTEC sticker sign in the back. Most importantly, I believe the H22 vtec car is the only one with 7 speakers.

Great post! Has nothing to do with anything and is false information!

uh, unless its different in canada, i dont think so. that piece in the bumper on the bottom is always black unless a bodyshop made a mistake and painted it while fixing it.
So in summary:
H22's always have the VTEC badge
If it is missing the spoiler, alloys, or is an automatic and is still stock, then it is definitely not an H22.
Pretty much everything else comes and goes between the different models.

I'd agree with Hawke, the easiest way is to check the tachometer. ALSO, VTEC's only came in 3 colors: Berlina Black, Milano Red, and that dark greenish blueish color. There is a difference between the Honda Prelude VTEC and a Honda Prelude with a VTEC engine. Technically, for a 4th gen, a true Honda Prelude VTEC will not have a tachometer that redlines below 7200. 4WS was ONLY an Si and made for the 4th gen in '92, and the Prelude VTEC was the top of the line model starting in '93. There are NO factory 4WS VTEC's. A true Prelude VTEC will not be white, blue, or that sandy-bronzeish-tannish color that the SE came in. Not all VTEC's have leather interiors. Some SI's DO have leather interiors. Not all VTEC's have the OE option of the 5th speaker/6x9 sub in the backseat. ALL Si's and VTEC's shared the same aluminum alloy wheels (92-93, 94-96 sawblade), while the SE's were technically an Si with leather interior and different non-9-spoke, sawblade, alloy rims. However, ALL VTEC's came with the OE option body colored spoiler, and the VTEC deignated sticker below the chrome "Prelude" cursive insignia on the lower right side of the trunk.

So a newer 95-96 VTEC redlines at 6500....ssssuuurrreeee

here again with grammar, and also, you are in australia dude, this is an american board, we dont have those little options like the japanese preludes do.....
the only post in this thread worth reading are ef93si and fenominal...
one thing though: the vtec redline is 7400, and the si and s both have the 6500 redline.....
the wheels were purely option, except in 93, they had the 7spokes only.....from 94-96 you could get either alloy on it
and yes they do have the 3rd brake light.....

unless you or the previous owner of the car peeled it off or painted the car, you can check the sticker on the driver's door jamb. it will say something like "Type: Si".
guys, we know you can check the car labels and valve cover....
he is trying to know from a distance.....
and stop throwing around the doo doo about the peice in the back bumper, it should be black plastic on every fourth gen, but all our cheap-*** former owners took it to a shitty body shop and they painted over it....
