Grandpa is running fairly strong (16.2@80mph) but he has an extremely loud valvetrain and he is getting tired.

I saw my old '87 LS this week. I sold it to a friend 5 years ago before he moved away. He was in town for the weekend and now has 285,000 miles on it. He just replaced the transmission with a used one as the original had bearing problems. The head has never been removed from the engine and it still pulls to redline. Plus, he got 38 MPG on the highway at 70 MPH.
