Lude+Mods+NOS=What for Warranty?
Got a question, I have a 2.5 year bumper to bumper warranty, and would like to do some mods, and have heard that basic mods like CAI, headers, exhaust are ok, is that true? As for the NOS kit, will one of these void my warranty? I would really like to run a 40-60 shot for the track, and some stang kills, but wont if it will jepordize my warranty. Hows it work?
Bummer, I was hoping to hear otherwise. Oh well, how about the other mods, will they make a noticable differance? What brands would you suggest? I have heard that the CAI is the best bang for product available, but which is the best for the Lude? Iceman? AEM? Other? How about headers? Pulleys? Cam gears? Exhaust? I have heard the Pace Setter exhaust is pretty good for the money, and can buy a better looking mufferler if desired. I wan the most performance, but looks have to be decent to. Want as many opnions as possible.
I personally hate dealerships, so I'd check with them to see what will and won't void your warranty before you do any mods. Pacesetter is crap, period. Mugen or hytech make the best lude headers, but DC and Greddy are also used alot. I'd go with AEM for the intake and Greddy for the exhaust. I heard that skunk2 just finished up it's prototype intake manifold as well. JUN and crower both make good cams, but those will kill your warranty unless the dealer is a personal friend of yours.
Yea, I will make sure its cool before I do anything. I am hoping that intake, exhaust, headers, pulleys, and cam gears would all be cool. Once my warranty is up, a NOS kit will go on right away, to bad thats a long time from now. Oh well, do what I can and be happy with that.
Where is the best place to order some of these mods? Also, is there a differance between the AEM CAI and the ones seen on Ebay? I saw a NAKAYAMA CAI for real cheap, just wondering if you pay for the name when you buy AEM.
Personally I get all of my parts through one shop because I know that I won't get screwed over on prices or service. To get cheaper parts you can look for used parts online, but some people aren't honest so be careful. I don't have the AEM CAI, but I do have their fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator and both were of very high quality and fit properly. In auto parts you do get what you pay for.

Cool, thanks for the advice. But I do think I will go with the Iceman CAI, have been hearing some good things about there perfomance. As for parts, pay more, get alot more in the long run seems to be what I should go by when deciding what parts.
If it's a stock warranty, with the exception of Nitrous, the mods will not affect warranty unless they are the cause of the problem (ie, an aftermarket intake causing hydrolock).
Ok, this is what I have heard, and maybe somebody can clear this up, no mods will void warranty, but if a problem occurs because of the mod, they will not fix the problem. So maybe FI is an exception, but I pay for the extra warranty, so why shouldnt I be able to do it. How much NOS can you run and have no problems? I know its safe up to 75, but if the risk is even less at 50, it would be set at 50. http://www.sema.org/consumer/alert/warranties.html is where got my info. When it does have to go into the shop, I could always take it off, but would they know I had it on there? Just trying to clear some things up, anyone know for sure?
Yes, according to that link you listed, you can run NOS, but if the NOS kit cause engine failure, your warranty will not cover it. I would personally do a few basic mods first, then buy a nitrous kit, and run it once in a great while, like at the track. Take it out when when it goes to the shop. Dont get to brave though, run a lower amount of nitrous, nothing over a 75 shot for sure, and play it safe with a 60 shot. I think most would agree with me. Good luck Toretto. (heheheh)
Yea, I will check into that. I doubt they are going to say, yea, go ahead and run nitrous, no problem, and go ahead and blow the engine while your at it, cause its under warranty. I would like to be able to do it with the dealership knowing, and being ok with it, but not so sure I would let that stop me either.
I agree wholeheartedly...usually if you are straight with them it's not too bad. My dealership knows my lude is turbocharged and as far as they are concerned that's fine as long as I don't try to warranty anything related to it. I've taken the car in for warranty service on several items (shock knock, squeaky headliner, etc) and they didn't have any problem fixing it as the problems weren't related to the mods...
It also doesn't hurt to get friendly with the mechanics

I agree with clendaniel, becoming friends with the mechanics is the best idea ever. I had no problems getting my supercharged integra serviced under warrantee and I dont expect a lot of flack when i run my direct port NOS kit on my '01 lude. Just dont be stupid.....if your NOS kit breaks you can't obviously take that to get fixed by the dealer. Thay have to PROVE that your mods caused the problem. And obviously the rest of the warrantee (interior, etc.) still stands.
