The stock clutch will last for how long? Let say on a base turbo....something like 6-7 or 8 psi max. Will it last a little awhile?

stock clutch should be ok until you start launching with bigger tires or slicks.

 

heard i can also just upgrade the pressure plate to a special shop....would it be fine with the stock disc? I also have a type R disc and pressure plate in my DA. The thing is that i JUST changed it like 3 or 4 months ago...

 

I will have a Clutch Net Stage 2 before the damn thing is on!! I know my habits so I'm planning ahead! Much better to change it when I want to rather than when I HAVE to!!!

 

I installed my revhard kit a little over 2 months ago, and the clutch has been slipping pretty bad for the last month. I noticed my first slippage about 4 days after getting the turbo in. My car is a 2000, so the clutch was almost new before this.
I have dropped the clutch at 3000 maybe 3-5 times since I've had it in, and boost at least every other day (but try to not shift at redline really quick because the clutch will slip in between shifts).

The stock clutch just isn't made for all that power and torque.

A guy i know here has a turbo B18c1 in his hatch and he runs like high 11s....heard he has the stock gsr clutch disc with an upgraded pressure plate....someone knows what i'M talking about? If it would be cheaper for me to go that route then i'll go.

The pressure plate is the one from the geeser, its been modified by a shop.

 

I blew mine at the track two weeks after having the turbo on.

It was so embarassing, I ran a 25.7@39 mph!

So, you should put some money off to the side for a clutch once you put the turbo on.

My stock clutch was pretty old but it held up out of boost but at high boosts it would slip like whoa. At 8psi it would slip if I was boosting then shifted quickly the next gear would not grab.

 

I ran stock clutch for 2500 miles.. first 1000 it did a good job holding up, next 1000 it started to slip more expecially when I turned the boost over 5psi, and then for the last 500 miles i havent been able to floor it without the clutch slipping... I just got my new clutch in today though and im one happy mother ******

 

Chris, you better break that thing in before you go boosting on it!!!

 

yeh trying, drove 100 miles today, stop light to stop light.. Im pretty sure its broken in by now but still taking it pretty easy.. not gonna launch it or double clutch, downshift it until at least 250...

 

wait until 500 miles man!! It ain't broken in at 100.

 

My new stock slutch slipped badly at full boost and was embarassing to race with. It lasted a week.

The Pressure plate is what holds the torque. The clutch disc itself is like a big brake pad and different brands last different lengths of time. I upgraded my clutch to a ACT HD and street disc. I needed street drivability and tons of holding power. The clutch works great with minimal increase in pedal feel. I can burn the tires in every gear under boost even when cruising at 55mph (I love 60mph burnouts).

As for my suggestion, I would keep the stock flywheel unless you autocross and upgrade the PP and clutch disc. Don't get any clutch with the word "puck" in it unless you are a serious racer and don't mind a choppy engangement.

so you dont suggest that i keep the type R clutch disc? theres a shop around where i live that would only upgrade my pressure plate and they said it would work fine with my clutch disc. Like i said above, theres a guy over here that runs the stock gsr disc but he has an upgraded PP....?? The guy runs big boost too...

my clutch seem to be holding up fine ( for now)
turbo has been installed for 8 months now, with 6-8 1/4 mile passes, 6 auto x events and a track day. I dynoed my car and it has 229.4 whp and 210.2 wtq @ 9 psi..
I know it just a matter of time before.. it goes.. now I am not sure what clutch to get when she finally lets go

 

I don't know what the type R clutch disc is like. Is it a puck style or a double wafer with the compression springs? (i can't remember the correct terms, darn brain). Basically, you will need a stronger PP, use your judgement on re0using the clutch disc. personnally, the clutch is such a pain to change I wouldn't reuse any components.

I'll keep it in there until its totaly gone, since its brand new. After i'll see for an aftermarket clutch and PP.

If i ever go turbo i'll leave it at low boost (yeah right) but i might go nitrous....dont know yet, have to make a choice, depends on the budget. I'll let you guys know

My stock clutch has lasted for 9 months now with no signs of slipage. It's all in how you drive, and for the most part I drive like an old lady 6 out of 7 days a week. Clutchnet clutch is sitting around waiting for the stock clutch to fail

 

i had a 2000 integra gsr and i went through nos, supercharger, and 2 turbo kits, and all motor, all on a stock clutch and when i sold the car it was still gripping hard as hell and i drove my car pretty hard. never slipped once stock clutch is good if u don't have a lemon of a car

 

why not just buy a new clutch?

 

It is much cheaper to get it modified by a specialized shop...if money wouldn't be a problem, of course i'd get the best ACT clutch out there or whatever the brand.
