Clutch Problems!
Stock 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback SI.
There is something funny with the clutch. It doesn't release all the way (car sitting still, put clutch to floor, wait 5 seconds, attempt to put in reverse, and it grinds like mad).
Ok, not a big deal, it just releases too close to the floor. Well, there is almost no play at the top of the pedal either. It's as if the clutch pedal stroke is too small for the amount of stroke the pressure plate requires. Also, the clutch is very heavy. The cable/pedal gives a low frequency noise (kind of a creaking sound) at the end of travel toward the floor. So some of the heaviness could be cable binding.
Perhaps there is flexing in the system? Either the cable or the rubber bushings etc are compressing too much?
It *may* have an aftermarket clutch that is somewhat of a "race" clutch with more clamp force (stiffer at pedal) and more throw (has run the pedal out of stroke) ???
