I have an oil cooled and water cooled T3 Super 60 turbo, I was wondering where can i find a kit? How would i go about putting one on?

You can look for an OEM watercooled T3 from any Volvo, Saab, or Ford Thunderbird. Easier yet is to use barbed NPT nipples.

You don't really need to water cool the turbo just because it has a jacket...

But if you really want to, just tap into a coolant line. I haven't ever seen any kind of kit for this... maybe I'm wrong though...

 

Well, When i look at the turbo, It has four holes in bearing housing or the center housing. Two are for oil and two are for coolant. Could i plug the coolant holes or do i really have to run coolant?

 

He already told you above that you don't have to run coolant through it to operate without harm. Where did you get your super 60 from, I understand they are pretty hard to come by. If you bought one off ebay that said "BRAND NEW GENUINE GARRETT SUPER 60...NEW NOT REBUILT BUY IT NOW $385" You probably got a rebuilt standard .60.

 

Well, I bought it from a guy who said it was a super 60, let's just call it a 60 then. What do you mean run without harm? Do i keep the plugs in the water holes? I need more info.

 

I would hook up the coolant lines, they are there for a reason...it helps keep the turbo cooler.

By without harm, I mean that generally all the turbo needs to last a fairly normal lifespan is the oil connection to lubricate the essential components inside the center housing. The water jacket around it is an attempt to help keep the housing slightly cooler, but is not necessary. You can just put an appropriate sized bolt from the hard ware store in the openings if you want a more proffesional look, or just leave them open....it doesn't matter. It was just another way for the engineers to gain a little more efficiency in a very easy way.

If you do hook them up, make sure you do a good job of it, and bleed any air bubbles out of the system by getting the car up to operating temperature after the fan comes on, making sure the open rad cap neck is the highset point in the system, and filling it with coolant so the level does not fall below the radiator top as it bubbles out.
