I dont know if its a AZ thing or not, but I was informed that if you remove the bumper supports and get in a wreak, your fault or not..and the damage is caused to the front or rear of the car...the insuarnce company can refuse to pay for damage done to areas affected by not having the supports.

Hmm...is that worth 30 LBS?

Sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me. I guess if you got a POS Hybrid.... j/k

Yeah, it isn't worth the weight. Bad idea.

If I was ever in someones street car that removed their bumper supports and we got in an accident I'd sue the $@%! out of them.

I removed mine since I have a JDM front. I wonder if this counts.

I would think it would count. I would call your insurance company and ask them.

Do all JDM front end users have to do that?

FYI, the entire front bumper (just the steel, not the urethane cover) weighs 12.5 pounds.

its not even 30 lbs
Well if it is 30 lbs right at the front edge of the car, it could make a noticeable difference. That's like an entire battery being removed...

i've not had a heavy accident with a jdm conversion (knock on wood)..i would check with your insurance company. my friend with his 96specr conversion was smoked in the front corner by some moron with a camry and he was covered... my old teg got squashed by a isuzu trooper in a hit and run and i was covered too... the rebar never came up with the adjuster.

I yanked both of mine out. I also yanked out my airbags.

People give me ****, but who cares.

My car weighs under 2500lbs. w/ my 230lb. *** in it and yours dont.

Full interior and A/C, too.

I wouldnt pull the front support out on a 92 Civic because it makes the bumper cover sag and look like ****.

This may sound stupid, but how much protection is the bumper giving you? They're designed for 5mph impacts, in a big wreck the safety in a car comes largely from the chassis and body design. Crumple zones and mounts that are designed to break away from the cockpit are what make the difference, that bumper is not going to slow down a big impact very much at all.

A lot of other countries don't require them because of that, they're really to prevent cosmetic damages. I've always considered them another one of our silly safety laws like requiring airbags that, like the sign on your visor says, may kill you.

Having said that I still have mine in the car. Too much of a pain in the *** for ~30lbs.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE
Am I the only person who dislikes airbags
I have a fear that they'll just pop out

I think the cross member is the front strut bar.
