Anyone swapped a LS 5th into a GSR tranny?
tons of people have done it. when i swapped my cases (gsr components into ls case because of some giant holes from mounts in tranny) i looked into
once i was inside the tranny i said **** THAT to the bearing that would have to be pressed off.

On the GSR tranny, 60mph = 3000 RPM

I have no technical insight for you guys, but YES, the LS 5th gear can be installed in GSR and TYPE R transmissions. And YES many many people have done it.

waste of time if you ask me. the gsr tranny isn't so short that it makes it uncomfortable to drive on the freeway. a b16 would be another thing, but i would use a gsr 5th.
that aside, you should technically be able to put an ls 5th in a gsr, if this is what you so desire.

The thing is, Crescent (C-speedracing.com) and I talked about doing this and we figure it wasn't possible because of a number of things...If you guys complete this swap, please let me know as I would like to put an LS fifth in my R tranny.

I've heard of lots of people who have done it. On the interstate I'm always between 3500 and 4000 rpm. With the RPM this high, it has a fair amount of power to accelerate in 5th gear w/o always needing to downshift. However with a longer 5th gear (like from an LS tranny), gas mileage would be even better, although you wouldn't have as much power in 5th gear.
If given the opportunity I would give it a try. I drive 700+ miles a week mostly at 60+ mph, so 3000rpm or less at highway speeds would be awesome.
Of course I would rather keep my 5th gear and have a 6th gear also, but that's not really feasable now is it.

dont forget that the final drive in the gsr tranny is 4.4, so the ls 5th wont be as long as it is in an ls
