Default JGTC Honda NSX goes turbo and wins once again

It seems that it was better to join the club than fight the club. Honda decided to go back to its Formula 1 roots and turbocharge their motor to beat the Toyota Supras, Nismo Z's, and they did.

Former F1 driver Satoru Nakajima's team EPSON NAKAJIMA RACING NSX did it in the GT500 class in round 5 at Twin Ring Motegi on September 5th 2004.

They returned to the old C30A V6 3000cc motor and added twin turbo chargers for 500 HP and won at home for the first time this year.

Still not quite the fastest car and they won in the wet, but a nice one in the bag for Honda. Senna won glory for Honda with turbos, is there more to come in turboland?

I sure would like to see them run in the flesh. So far, so far, east and west shall never meet. Maybe Watkins Glen next year?

A good showing on the home track.

Twin turbo engine tuned by M-Tec (aka Mugen Power) seems to have finally done the trick.

And now for the normally aspirated fans, not to be un-done, the GT300 class 2004 championship was won by the M-Tec sponsored golden beauty, by a single point with a win in the last race of the season at Susuka. Nice. I just love that qualifying lap of Susuka by Senna someone posted a link to a couple of days ago. The Honda Master at work on one of the worlds greatest tracks. Wish I could drive there just once.

Senna qualifies first at Susuka for McLaren/Honda
http://www.phase-shift.net/sch...a.mpg

C32B V6 3500cc NA stroker engine with undisclosed HP, but obviously in the range of 300 for the class they are runing in.

Just in case you needed some inspiration for a new paint scheme for your car. Add some gold to it!

Don't forget to check out those mean wheel arch extensions and nice diffuser as viewed from the rear. And how about that front splitter/air dam with raised mid-section matched to the truly big-*** wing. All nicely smoothed on the side between the arches. Somebody is spending money in the wind tunnel.

Congratulations Honda. Makes me want to smell some of that perfume "Oil".
And nice to see Mugen is alive and well, and kicking butt.

It's still a shame that the only consumer available, turbocharged Honda one can buy is an AquaTrax F-12X or R-12X.

The NSX has always been a very competitive car in JGTC. Raybrig, ARTA, Loctite, Mobil 1, Takata, Castrol NSX's have been on the podium countless times in the past decade.

What impresses me the most is that the engines used in those NSX's are based off of the original C30 or C32. Unlike the Supra, even though they've been in the field for almost as long as the NSX, their I-6 twin turbo engine (dunno about the engine code) had never made it into their race car. It went from 4-cyl turbo engine to now 4.5L V8.

Agreed, but they haven't won in a long time. I believe they could keep up with and beat the turbos in the past due to their good aerodynamics in the then current regulations. When the rules changed, they lost their aerodynamic efficiency advantage and their place the sharp end of the pack. They have now jumped onto the turbo bandwagon to make up the difference, and it seems Mugen can tune both the turbo and NA engines and come up with wins. Maybe they will make a turbo kit. Imagine the price!!! Anyhow I had been getting tired of checking out the JGTC website and never seeing any NSX's at the top in GT500, so it was a nice surprise. Maybe they will win in CA.

I also like how low those side skirts are in the shot of the car riding over the curb. Not much air spilling in from the sides here. It all looks similar to the German DTM car setups. A little bit more advanced than an A-spec package.

What a great post...for the NSX forum.

Interesting rear side intakes on the Epson vs the Mugen. And way to kick *** Honda!

<=== PMing to rub it in Knightsports face.

One win, whoop dee doo, Cerumo One still 0wnz j00!

If that car made any torque like the REAL cars they'd have had traction problems like the big boys. Don't expect this to happen again when they come to the Sunshine State.

You're a putz. Lack of torque is Honda's celebrated "Integrated Traction Control" system. Get it straight.

And since when was JGTC racing in Florida? See you really are a putz.

descartesfool,
Turbo is not Honda roots, they do not even make Turbos adders in the Factory, their first F1 win was a NA engine in the sixties THAT WAS THE ROOT, they did however hook up with MCLAREN in the eighties to get many wins but only because they wanted too and that was the rules.

They turbocharged the current JGTC NSX in this case because they had too, not because they wanted, Honda prides itself on making the best ENGINE first, then power adders later that goes for current hybrids and even their award winning European all ALUMINUM Turbo Diesel Engine.

why exactly are you celebrating an NSX win that happened back in september? NSX's got SPANKED all friggin year now that the aero restrictions limited their main advantage. it was a smart move to move the #16 car to GT300 tho. well, obviously since they beat the perennial champ MR2.
