Help deciding on which header??
hi guys,
im about to upgrade my stock header for a B16A. im currently ordering a 63mm T1R b-pipe and Spoon N1 muffler. i have a stock cat and im hoping to keep it for emission laws etc.. i have stock internals too. the car is daily driven
i dont have a lot of $$ probably 350-500 bucks.
what header do you suggest i should purchase?

go for a 4-2-1 because 4-1 will help in the top end, which you don't need(having a b16 i know the top end is good), 4-2-1 should help out a little in the bottom end power. as for companies there are many and most of the time you get what you pay for. i'm runnin a dc sports 4-2-1. just my opinion
yeah i think im going for a dc sports header or comptech. where can you buy them for a good price?
i think a 4-2-1 stainless with 2.5" collector is good.
anyone with dc sports + comptech header can you review it?
thanks

didnt notice much of a differnce with any 4-2-1
header ive bought...
(if anything it feels slower topend
I currently use a dc 4-2-1
would like a jdm ITR 4-1 or settle for the dc 4-1

Your problem is that you want to keep using your stock cat which won't work with anything bigger than a 2" collector. If you're worried about emissions any header with a larger than stock collector won't be CARB legal. Ceramic is fine if you don't live in a corossive environment where stainless is required for long life. If I were you I'd stick with your stock manifold unless you plan on upgrading cams and other stuff. I tested a DC 4-1 header on my car on a dyno and the power curve overlapped the stock manifold exactly right up until the last 300 rpm where there was a gain. So your money would be better spent elsewhere...at least at this point anyway.

no DC or comptech is 4-2-1 with a 2.5 collector. only headers made for the JDM it-r/ct-r have 2.5" collectors. there are a few small manufacturers in the states that make headers with 2.5" collectors. also, with a 2.5" collector, you will need a new 2.5" cat.

A standard DC header will bolt up to the stock cat but a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 collector will NOT bolt up to the stock cat unless you were to use the Type R cat or aftermarket high flow cat.

i am asking this cause i recently rebuilt my gsr engine with .25mmOS jdm itr pistons and jdm itr cams, and also milled the head .014" and i am noticing with my manifold(B16 top half, gsr bottom half) that is seems to not want to rev like it used to

Based on the info you gave I calculated your compression ratio to be about 11.8:1 with your current setup. At that level you'll probably find that the stock manifold with the 2" collector and cat convertor will probably limit your top end power a little. A JDM DC 4-1 with the 2.5" collector and an aftermarket highflow cat with the larger inlet would help for sure. Your exhaust should be at least 2.25" but you could also go with a 2.5" inch if you wanted too. The least expensive route you could go is to find an exhaust manifold from an ITR and stock cat off of one because the collector and inlet/outlet was 2.25" stock. Combine that with a 2.25" cat back and you should notice a decent difference.
