Installing a Fuel pump kill switch in a CRX....and now it wont start.
This is in a 91 CRX Si....
I checked the harness for the power wire. Found it then proceeded to solder a wire into the black wire that did not have power (I have 4 wires: yellow/black stripe, yellow, black/silver stripe, and black/silver dots). I cranked teh car on, flipped the switch and the car continued to run. Flipped it the otehr way, it still ran. Spliced into the black/silver dots wire and went through the same procedure. It did not cut the car off.
I got fed up with soldering and unsoldering wires (I'm a lazy dumbass..I know), so I decided to jump a wire from teh switch to the connectors for the remaining yellow wire. It sparked and the car cut off and hasnt started back up since. When you turn the key "on" the fuel pump does not pressurize the system.
Whast teh problem? Fuel pump blown? Main relay fried? I tried replaceing the small relay that is just behind the Hood release to no avail.
Also, could teh reason it shorted out be due to me jumping the wire while it was running? Should I solder the wires together at all times to avoid that (in other words: if I solder to that wire, once I fix this problem, will it still short something out)??
TIA!!!

I believe there is a fuse for the fuel pump, but anyway if you are trying to cut power to the fuel pump you probaly did,the fuel that is in the fuel system has to be run out of the fuel rail for the car to stop running, this may take a couple of minutes.
yeah i could cut the switch while driving and i would have about 35-45 seconds of the car still running. start from the source of power and eliminate all the problems it could be. i would replace any blown fuses first, then relays, then fuel pump (<-- hope not). even if the fp fuse looks ok i would replace it. i've came across three fuses in my nissan/honda wrenching days that look perfect but are blown.
Do you have a test light, if so test to see if you have power where the wires go into the tank under the access panel in the back of the car,and remember you mite have to turn the key on & off because the pump only runs for a couple seconds to prime the fuel system if the cars not running.

the fuse for it would be in that collection of main power fuses right? I took a quick look over them all and didnt see any bad ones...
no. It is still soldered to the black wire. the car didnt shut off or anything when it was connected to any of the black ones. It ran normally.

I know, and I did.....
I cant seem to find any fuel pump fuse. ANyone know where it is (if there is one)?

.eh....I'm an idiot. There was a blown fuse but it wasnt anything labeled fuel pump or anythign related to fuel at all. It was the "alternator solenoid valve" fuse.
whats up with that?
whats up with that?

You take the power wire, cut it and solder it to the two outer terminals on the switch. Use the center terminal to ground the switch and it is supposed to wkr that way form what I have been told. I havent got around to screwing with it again yet. I will wednesday and let you know how it goes
