i have a walbro 255lph in my 01 turbo lude... ive had the pump in the car 10 months and all of a sudden today i get out of my car after driving it and their is a loud whisling noise comeing from the back of the car... its much much louder than the pump normally is... what could this be? is it normal to have the pump get louder after 10 months all of a sudden? or is it a problem?

 

Mine's been loud from day one. Maybe yours just finally went to the "normal" noise level.

it just seems strange for it to sound quiet for 10 months and then all of a sudden make this strange noise...

Not mine, I don't think it's loud at all, everyone keeps saying that, definetely overrated. The stock fuel pump is louder on my S-10 for god's sakes!

 

It's that distinct Walbro whine. I used to notice it alot after I first installed it. Now I don't even care anymore.
On a side note, do any of you guys' pumps make a waivering sound sometimes when coming down to idle? Mine does. Was just kinda wondering if that was normal.

Have you checked the fuel pressure lately? The Walbros are much louder when pumping at lower pressures. I had a similar situation when my FPR adjustment **** was loose and the pump suddenly became twice as loud. Turned out that my fuel pressure dropped about 10 psi from just having the adjustment **** vibrating loose over time.

Funny how everyone responded that it is normal. When a pump suddenly becomes much louder than before, it is not normal and something has changed. I am sure that boosted lude knows that the Walbro is loud since day one...lol

 

mine sounds like a jet engine lol.....

mine all of a sudden got louder after 4000 miles after the install. i checked around..but didn't find anything. i did a search and people said it was normal...so i just took it as that. it was rather strange that it just all of a sudden made the noise...but i dont see any problems as of right now...which is now 10,000 miles later. maybe i was just low on fuel at the time. cause i only occassionally hear it when the gas tank is at half tank or less.

 

my holley hp has NEVER been loud.

could be cause you are low on gas, maybe?

dunno if this matters... but mine gets HELLA loud when the tank is running low. it sounds like my tank is growling like a rubbling stomach. scary

 

My Walbro 255HP wasn't that loud at all for the first 8000 miles of so, then one day after a 2 hour trip home when i parked to let the car cool i noticed it was whining a lot, i panicked but was told by other people that had the pump it does that, it whined like that for about a month, and now it doesn't do it anymore. I have no clue, it whined whether it was a full tank or low ???

 

mines did that also, it had a restriction on the pump that's why it was making that noise, my inline fuel pump was not connected

 

mine seems a little louder than before too. Its probably just in my head though...

 

Mine gets louder at full tank and low tank.

no kidding, I think he would know if it changed in loudness. If he didn't or doesn't do something, he may blow his motor. If it ends up being nothing, then he just saved his motor by making sure everything was OK.

 

how can you tell if your pump is going bad? A lack in fuel pressure?

 

Mine gets loud when its low too!

 

it will get loud when it stops sucking fuel up......

but even when my cars on E my car drives fine and the pump sounds normal.

I had one do the same thing to me. It started whining more than usual and almost sounded like an air leak in the rear of the car. Checked everything out and could not find any problem. The sound went away and has since returned. I personally think the pump is going bad and I plan on replacing it! This car in particular is pretty much stock now so we are not worried that it will run lean on stock settings but who knows... I have no idea how many miles are on the pump (allot) but it really does sound like a leaking tire or something from the back side of the car. REMEMBER walbro's do NOT last forever. i'm running stock motor (B16)(stock FPR,fuel rail and lines) on 10lbs and everything tuned, and it runs fine whether it's whining before or not, i dunno, if it dies it dies, parts can be replaced

 

is there any fuel pump out there that doesn't whine other than stock? How about the supra fuel pump, how is the noise?

 

my walbro has never been loud..not in this ep3 nor in my last civic

if it dies... it's possible ur motor could go with it
