Help!!!!! I bought a stolen Integra!!!
The title might be a little bit misleading. I bought a theft recovery 96 5spd LS 2dr SSBP Integra. I think it was originally from GA from the title. I bought it from a broke student and he bought it directly form the Insurance company. So here is what the thieves took . Engine, tranny, ecu, radiator, axles and the front end, also Airbags and gauge cluster. Engine nay is basically empty. The front end has already been replaced with mix-matched body panels so all i need now is a basic engine swap.., I was told that it had an engine in the trunk but when i took a closer look at the engine it is a b18a1. which I believe is the 90-93 LS engine It comes with the block, head and IM, no tranny. Im still studying about the engine but what I really want to know is if I can make the engine work in a 96 teg. isnt there a difference in hydro and cable trannies?
What i really want to do with this engine is build a turbo motor, Im hoping to build a turbo LS, mild build up (pistons, rods, maybe cams) and get it up to about 260-300 HP. I only want to spend about 3,000 on this motor buildup. and use free software to tune.
I saw on Ebay that I can get a jdm H22 full swap for $2200 and mounts for $150. SO this is also an option. Anyone have any experience in rebuilding a theft recovery Integra? I bought it for $700 so i figure I could build a pretty mean car for under $4000. Gimme your opinions on this move I made, I will post up pics soon....
Lates,

its not as easy as that. your car is a 96....meaning you can put any older year motor in that car. that is illegal i believe. so basically you would have to look for a motor thats off a 96+ i mean you can make the 90-93 b18a work, but if you ever run into problems like smog/chp you will get fucked. and since you bout the car off an auction you would have to bring it to brake/lamp and CHP to inspect all the parts to make sure its legit. than you can register the car. its harder than you think. just look for something selling a gsr or ls motor than get everything register and than worry bout making the car fast.
sounds like a good project
my car's a theft recovery.............only thing that sucked for me was that the goddamn dmv took almos 6 months to schedule me for the state salvage examination, which is when they take a look at the car you've put together and check all of your receipts to make sure that you didn't use stolen parts
other than that, it sounds like you've got yourself a good deal

I know that may be the case In CA, But I live in Arkansas so I dont have to do any of that. we have no safety check, Recon, Smog, or Bar. I am not 100% sure of it all though. As long as you dont speed and wear your seatbelt hte cops here leave you alone.
If I need to go out of my way to use a b18a1 I really dont want to bother with it. I do plan on building the engine, and if i could just find someone selling a full swap that would really be hte easiest and fastest way to get everything i need. Actually, fastest way would be to steal someones integra and move all the parts over to mine, But i would never do something like that.
Onlyl thing I got right now is a b18a1 shortblock. I really dont want to start things off on the wrong foot, and going backwards in engines doesnt sound too hot. lemme know what you guys think.
If a h22 full swap and mounts can be had for under $2500 how much would a full
b18 swap cost?

you can use the block, you just need to get a few sensors for it.
Crank Fluctuation sensor is one of them, not sure of others.
Why not just do a mild LS/Vtec setup, 200-220whp easy. Pm me if you want some details.

Since when is putting an older year motor in your car illegal? But it is legal to put a new motor in your old car? what a douche. Shut up. Bye.
Good luck on your build. If you want some good power for cheap i would suggest doing an LS Turbo, might as well start ripping the block apart while the motor isnt in the car, itll be easier on you. Go to Pep Boys and get yourself an engine stand.
H22 also sounds good though. You will need to run a hydro tranny of course.(unless you do h22)

yo u are in good hands i just went through the same crap it aint that hard at all as long as u know how to do motor work & wiring. i got all USA parts ,ecu's, full harnesses, parts & full access to parts. i got a 96 ls auto, & bought a 2000 gsr man at a auction for 2600$ with 65thous miles (actual miles) what a deal. had alot of panel damage but the doors mirrors interior & back hatch were "perfect" still have the whole car & all parts that i didn't use in the swap . i only used the motor & motor- harness( cause of the v-tec ), tranny & peddles for the swap. i used my harness in the car cause i got diagrams to switch wires around, didn't even have to run v-tec wires cause the harness had extras . also i traded a head light for a 99 ecu , i luv trades
but if u need help or advice let me know it took a day & a half to get the whole car running down the road with me & my friend in my garage. thats perty dame good being the first time & not having a shop. holla back

Nice reply, did you look around at all to see if his statement was true or did you just bash him from your own information. Emissions wise I'm pretty sure it is illegal to put an older motor into a newer car. It might not be in every state though, so for some of us it wouldn't apply.
I'm sure you can get an Ls motor for a good price thats 96 or newer for your car, they can run fairly cheap. Gl on it.

Well I spent most of the day reading through thread after thread trying to figure out what I am gonna do with this car. my options basically came boiling down to this.
No matter what engine i go with I still have to buy... Full Engine, harness, ECU, tranny, Axles, Radiator, rad fan, alt/AC/PS etc... and then turbo parts after all that
and several other things I am sure I am missing.
LS/Vtec- I can use the b18a1 block that came with the car, will still have to buy all the parts to build the engine from scratch will cost about the same since I still have to buy everything, if it was a cheap upgrade I would do it, plus I dont have too much engine building exp.
B18C-with the price of GSR engines on the market today it will cost just as much or more than a jdm H22. ebay going price is $2800-3000
H22 - I cant believe how cheap this swap can be had for... 2500 shipped and $200 for the mounts. plus add a few goodies and I will have a nice lil H22 Teg all for about $4000 total. it also cost the same if not more than a GSR or Type R swap.
so here is my running list of what I am gonna buy over the next couple of months, Lemme know if I am missing anything.
My Xmas shopping List
1. JDM H22 Engine package from various online retailer; HMO or Ebay =2200-2500
Engine Package Comes With Full swap, engine, axles, ecu, tranny, all accessories, and everything I need (I hope So)
2. H22 into Integra Mounts - 200
3. Upgraded Clutch -300
4. Lightened Flywheel -200
5. Upgraded Axles Stage 1(Any suggestions guys?) 250
6. I/H/E 250
7. Performance Radiator + FAL Fan= $250
8 Whatever I need to keep my AC and PS plus random stuff $500
So with these purchases planned and I will be able to install all this stuff in my garage I am prolly looking at about $4000. Am i missing anything? Do I need to get stuff like cams, fuel pump, VAFC, Chipped Ecu etc... How big of a difference does a LSD make? and does anyone have any experiece buying outside of HMO for full swap packages on ebay? will the supplied axles be any good? or should i go ahead and just get the upgraded ones?
I will shop around for all parts but most of the prices came from ebay. I just want to make 13s and this will not be my daily driver, I got 3 240s for that
. also do the swap packages usually come with shifter cables ? I will call HMO tomorrow and see what kinda prices I will really be looking at... tell me what you think of my list guys and if i need to add anything
thanx,
Ftrceo

the h22 harness behind the dash is the same as the integra? it doesnt seem it would to me. or does the harness come with the motor?
You can actually send both of your harnesses out (integra and prelude) and get them to make one. We had to do that when we did the h22 in a del sol swap. There are some companies to do that with. We used JDMcars.com (since were a dealer for them) but if you know of anyone else then i guess go with them. Doesnt really matter as long as it works.

exactly.. i mean if everything doesnt work out with that motor, you gota spend a some money to buy you a new engine, but then you can also sell the b18a and get some cash off of that too..
im guessing around the ball park of 3-5500k and that includes tune and misc. hardware to put your engine back in..
but if you're piecing your turbo kit together, you could go a bit cheaper then a turbo kit, but you just gota make sure you have all your parts, small fittings, screw's, etc...
but good luck on this bro, and please post some pictures of your daily progress..
and if you have any pics of your whip now as is.. i'd like to see that too

There is always more than you imagine with a swap. Plan to spend an extra $300 on top of this for unexpected tools/parts/sensors, etc.
I/H/E is more like $500, and that's ebay crap... get that stuff later.
Put a fresh motor in that 96. It is definitely illegal to put an older year motor in a newer year car.
If money is of most concern, look for an obdII CRV motor and use the b18a1 intake manifold.. If they left the ecu in the ls, and it's obdI, all you need to buy is 94-96 OBDI injectors and an OBD1 engine wiring harness, and those are cheap. It's easier to do than an H22 changeover. H22 requires special axels, harness, ecu, etc...
My buddy did this in his 95 ls when he blew the motor, and he sometimes beats my gsr...
PLUS, you can always slap a b16 head on in the future.
look at this:
$900 - 1999 CRV B20B motor
$400 - tranny
$75 - OBD1 Engine wiring harness
$50 - OBD1 Injectors
$500 - Clutch/Flywheel
$250 - Radiator + FAL
$600 - MISC
That's $2775.
Just my 2c.

the way i always have looked at it is why but a motor older than 96, its 2005 basically that's an old motor has miles, then slap a turbo on it it wont go far. even at low boost its not going to be fast. unless u build a old motor it ain't worth it. u have already dealt with a auction so u know how it works u need to but a newer car that is a salvage who cares what it looks like low miles & the engine compartment loos ok also see what has been done to the car lowered intake **** like that means the car is more than likely a little worn out depending on how many miles are on it & how long the person has had it ect... but u get the whole swap everything & more. not to mention if the car isn't totally crashed ( witch happens alot) u can make alot of the money back. if the back hatch is good theirs a easy 800 min doors bumpers ect. the list can go on. but these were your main $$ makers. u will spend around 25000 plus auction fees. its a american car, u see the car, so its not no jdm that u don't know what your getting totally plus jdm motors don't come with all the parts pedals are hard to come across & will cost so my advice salvage auction. i do this all the time with my partner. trust me its the best way. but that what i have seen & done so many times so good luck. a h22 swap is alot of work your suspention & alot more will have to be changed out.
Since when is putting an older year motor in your car illegal? But it is legal to put a new motor in your old car? what a douche. Shut up. Bye.
Research the emission laws, it is legal to swap 96 or newer into a 96 car. Good luck in getting your 94 motor in your 96 car thru inspection. Im not saying it cant be done but its a pain in the **** when it comes to inspection time unless you pay someone to pass your car.

personally i would either look for a LS engine and tranny or a gsr engine and tranny it might be $1000 more than the H22 but i guarantee the power yields when everything is said and done would be a lot more. that just from what i have seen with some of my friends with Civic hatches with B series motors. but to each his own
