Default Early XMas Gift (My condolences to 56k)

This is a D16Y8 Head that had a mild PNP. It was just sitting in a friends garage and he let me have it providing I take it home ASAP so he'd have more room for his 'Poor mans Type R' project. From another friend I aquired a D15B7 Block from a 94 DX HB. I would just like more info on how this swap goes into my ED9 Chassis. I've gathered quite a bit of info from here http://www.angelfire.com-ca-DrOhm-hybrid.html TIA for any [HELPFUL] replies, - Darrell

As far as putting the motor in its fairly easy. but i take it you havent done much motor work so i wouldnt recoment you assembling the motor yourself.

Actually, I'm quite good with a wrench, I just don't know off hand what motors/blocks fit which bodies, and what preparations are necessary in transplanting this motor. I always thought I had to get a large amount of parts for this swap. I actually don't even know where to begin the search . The reason I have a DOHCZC is cause it was a bolt-on affair. I thought I'd need mounts/hydro tranny conversion/axles ect for a Single Cam VTEC swap. Maybe I could be pointed in the right direction? - Darrell

Ok, from what I gather, the head is a d16Y8 from a 96+ Civic EX (EJ8) and the block is a D15B7 from A 92-95 CIVIC DX/LX. I can use my stock 91 CRX Si harness/axels/hubs/tranny/mounts/and ecu I just have to get a FPR, RPM activation switch <- Endyn reprogrammed PM6 ECU. I can use a D16a6 dizzy from my old stock motor, but it might fit a bit awkward so modifying it will be necessary. And I should use the D16A6 T-Belt since its 104 teeth not 103 like the VX? I should use the 92-95 Alternator since its a 4 rib not 3 like the 89-91. If anyone has any objections or opinions/ideas/[BOLD]INFORMATION[/BOLD] plz share, thanks. - Darrell

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but why are you doing a mini-me when you have a ZC already in your car?

I guess you know very little of ZCs. Aftermarket for a ZC is next to nothing. My funds will not allow me to do the modifications to this engine which would net me the results I want. Also, forced induction is not in my future, very much limiting the possibilities of my DOHCZC. Also, I'd like to pursue another motor, considering this one I paid $0 dollars for. And whose to say I'm not keeping the DOHCZC for lets say.. My gfs ride? Again, I'm just asking for information, not questions as to why I am doing what I am. But thank you for the interests in my post. - Darrell

I'd keep the ZC if I were you.....I don't know why people say they can't find parts for them. What parts do you want that you can't find? I'd personally set the new block/head aside for later, just in case you get an OBD1 car, or kill the ZC.

Doesn't look like the D16Y8 from the combustion chambers, but it might be the fotos?
What Serial CODE is on it?
should read "P2J"

Thats because its not. No quench pads = Not a Y8.

Kinda looks like a Z6 to me. Your compression is going to be lower than what you think it is.

I had a ZC, and quickly realized that the "no parts" thing is just a myth made up by lazy people. I miss my ZC Si, it seemed way peppier than my D15B VTEC EG.

That would be attributed to the 90mm stroke and DOHC head...

I loved my ZC, but I'm gonna go Y8/A6 Hybrid with my Beater hatch.

My ZC is going under the knife and will soon find track only conditions. But I need another motor to put in and I had come across a deal, free block/head so why not? Your right, not a Y8, head says P08-4 and it has a VTEC solenoid. Find me a complete valvetrain for my ZC that isn't going to be 2-3x's the price of the valvetrain for a Single Cam VTEC and you will get a big from me. But again, I guess I can't emphasize enough, I DO NOT WANT QUESTIONS AS TO MY MOTIVES, merely the information as to how I can combine the above pictured head to a D15B7 block. TY for the replies, keep 'em coming. - Darrell

Take out the blocks oil squiter, and bolt it on.

Happy?

Happy?</TD></TR></TABLE> Actually, yes, quite. TY for a short, simple, and DIRECT reply bryson . Even if was ment in an ill-tempered manner. DJ, thanks for the link . TY to all those who posted, be it helpful or not. - Darrell

BTW, I still &lt;3 my ZC and would take it with spun bearings and a blown HG before I'd step V DOWN V to a B16 x 10 million multiplied by the speed of time in MHZ.

Umm...no its not.

Y8 Flows better, has a better cam, has quench pads, nets a higher compression, and its newer.

And...how is the Z6 better?
