Do you know if the smog station records that you where there along with the milage to the dmv when you don't pass?

if you don't pass smog, does the person writing all the stuff down record your milage on the car?

Also what happens when your OD breaks and you get a new OD?

yes, if it breaks they will write it in as N/A but I forgot the term they use to write down that it's not working.

how many miles a car has on it has no relevance to a smog check. they are concerned with year, model and if all components that are supposed to be there for SMOG. speedo is not a smog device

hope this helps

Just ask the guy that's gonna smog the car and see what he says.

Heres the story. Old speedo went bad, i got a new one and put it in. Current milage on the car reads 21 miles. I went to get my car smogged so I can get insurence on the car. He brings out his clip board with a smog paper on it and tests my car. checks vin, engine code, and milage and writes them down on the paper. He hooks up my car and tests it. I ask if it will pass, he says, "yes, its a little high though." He then proceeds to smog and gets stopped because my car was a gross polutor before i fixed it. He then told me I had to go to the referee or "test only station" and get it smogged because of that and the fact that my engine is a d16a6 and not the original hf d15b2. I then left and was concerned because he looked at me funny when he was recording the milage. He asked me why the milage was so low, I told him the last owner replaced the OD because it wasn't working. He told me that there should of been a sticker on my car indicating the exact milage. I have the exact milage of the body writen down, and he told me that it wouldn't matter because the guy could of just wrote anything. I then started to worry because I didn't want to get fined or anything because I put in a new OD. As I was leaving, he was writing stuff down on that paper and I don't know if he sends in the paper indicating that i had 16-21 miles on the car to the dmv or not or whereever they keep record of that. So here I am shitting a brick because I don't think I did anything wrong but am worried. So, what should I do?

Droppedcrxsi: do you have the 1800 number for the referee? I'm going to go out to salinas and ref my car.

I would roll up the mileage as close as possible, cruz by my house in SJ, and I can do it for ya, no problem. If the dmv questions it, say the smog tech made an error. Once it said I had 27k on my car on a smog check(he screwed up), it was really 127k, it never showed up on my carfacts or whatever thats called.
I keep getting asked the number, I forgot it, but call 1 (800) 777-0133 and ask for the california state referee appointment hotline.

alright. I don't want to get a fine. Did the DMV ever ask you questions? I'm assuming so because you said to tell them they made a mistake. Let me know. I'm just going to pop back in my old OD then. Thats one thing I don't want on my carfax report or anything! Epecially since I have no intention to frud the government or anyone else. Thanks again.

as far as the milage, it only applies if you are re-selling the car. If you state that the reading on the odometer is tru but you know it's not, it would be considered fraud.

You won't get fined for an odometer reading being incorrect.

don't sweat the milage. If they ask, just tell them you don't know the exact milage because the person you bought it from changed it because the original one was broken. But let them know how many miles to the best of your knowledge.

It is not illegal to change your gauges and have your odometer read incorrect.

It has no affect on registration and/or smog.

If you insure it, they will have a number to compare it with for later comparison.

HF, regardless if it has nothing to deal with smog they still take it down. I went to a ref today and he took down the milage. I didn't pass but the solutions are simple to fix, exhaust leak (rewelded), ecu cover, and timing.

What does the model have anything to do with anything?

looks like you got to go the dmv and get file a replace odometer... i forgot what its called.... but you will need to let the dmv know (you dont have to but IMO i would just in the future its fixed especially when you are reselling the car in the future)...

DMV can be kind of funny about milage.

Here is a good story;

The last car that I build was a 64 Chevelle and when I bought it, it didn't have the dash. That didn't bother me due to the fact that I was going to build a custom one and use Autometer gauges. This included the speedometer.

When I went to register the car, I filled out the milage as zero, which is what the gauge read. The people at DMV just couldn't figure out how I could have a 64 with no miles on it. Even after I explained it to them, they didn't seem understand. I was told that I should have transfered the milage from the old speedometer to the new one. Once told that I didn't have (and never had) the original gauge, they were still bugged about it, but did give me my registration.

what concerned me was the fact that the guy i took the car too didn't care about what I had to say about how many miles were on the car. He just wrote down the milage regardless. I'm just going to tell the dmv, if they ever ask or call, and tell them the guy made a mistake.

Wes: My concern is the fact that the milage on a carfax report would say that I had fraud on it, which it doesn't. You should check a carfax report on your car.

Btw, no one has a carfax account do they?
