car blowing out white/blue smoke
went for a cruise last week with a friend. he said my car was blowing out a cloud of bluish smoke a few seconds after taking off from the traffic light ( he was behind me, I am guessing a few seconds mean vtec engagement in my car ).
What could be the problem? is the oil too thin?

Blue == Oil
Grey/black == Fuel (Rich) and normal.
White == Steam. Either it's cold out, or you're getting antifreeze into your combustion chamber.
Don't let Brandon pray for your engine, he sucks at getting what he wants.

Yeah, mostly normal. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but keep track of how fast you're burning it.
Is your friend sure it was blue?
You could take a peek at the spark plugs, see if any of them are fouled with oil. And/or run a compression or leakdown test.

Burning oil is one thing but when your blowing out blue smoke it means the oil is making it past the piston rings into the combustion camber and out the exhaust. It could be that the pcv valve is bad. The oil would then make it pass it and into the intake manifold instead then into the combustion camber.

thanks, I will check my pcv valve as I never check it since I got the car

Check your compression .. If you can rule out the possibility of engine damage or coolant leaking (bad head gasket) into the chambers, intall a catch can. I have 250psi on all my cylinders with JUN3 cams and I rev to 9100. I used to get A LOT of smoke up on the high revs (no smoke on daily driving). I replaced my PCV for good measure as it didn't seem to be bad and installed a catch can.. smoke went from a huge cloud to a very small puff when I change gears at high revs..
I guess we've come to accept oil burn as a normal thing on modified ITRs .. Specially if you have head work, cams, or high compression/RPMs ..

but then again, when the wastegate opens, its all richness venting out the dumptube. i feel sorry for anyone behind me when i vent my anger at the world.
