Engine is cold REDLINE at 5500rpm
The title cover it really. But when I first start my Prelude and am I driving why does it seem that I am hitting red line around 5500 RPM'S? It is like the Vtec does not kick in. Instead of the Vtec kicking in, the motor acts as if I am bouncing off the red line. Now this only happens when the engine is cold. If you need to know the car does have the Apex VFAC and I/H/E.
thanks

how can it **** my engine up. the car has a slush box, it is not like I am shifting the gears my self. mainly only happens when I am getting on the highway though.
you should just let your car warm up if you are going to take it that high right away. My car is MT and i do not take it above 3k revs until it is up to normal OT. very bad for your motor to make it rev that high when cold and im sure most will agree.
OK, you have this goop called oil in your motor. It is used to lubricate your motor. When it is cold, said goop is thick and can't circulate very well. Do you enjoy buying new motors?

I wear a size 16 shoe I was always afraid to learn to drive a manual. Unitl my friend and I raced and his Prelude walked me. So I bought my project CRX that I drive mostly.
BrokeLude... thanks for the wonderful advice smart a$$. I guess I should get the remote start for the Prelude now.

Sorry, can't help being an ***. In my nature I guess.
Anyway, no need for a remote starter, although it's nice to have. Just drive easy until you warm it up...
I've got a remote start on my MT lude. I'm a bad boy for that I guess. I need to set up a switch system running off the shifter cables positions so it will only start in neutral. I've got an idea that should work. Has anybody done this? I'd like to see a real life example to help decide if my idea would work or not.

BROKELUDE: I have never heard of being able to hook up a remote start on a manual that will not let the car start unless it is in neutral. If you find out how to do it let me know so I can install it on my CRX. My Viper Alarm has the capability to do it but I did not hook it up because with my luck I would run the damn car into the wall in the garage.
SNIFFTHESE: yeah I am a big boy. You should see me in my CRX.

He wasn't really being a smart ***, he was letting you know that it
is dumb to dog your motor when it's cold.
The vast majority of engine wear occur's when
you don't take the advice he gave you......you should thank him
Edit: He was probably joking about the remote starter anyway

Actually, there are a few alarm/remote start setups that are made to work with manuals, but they are a pain in the ***. They require turning on the system before turning off the car, then getting out and activating the alarm, then shutting off the car. If you deactivate the alarm anytime before doing the remote start, it will shut off that feature. Basically, they insure that nobody can get into the car and put it in gear before starting it. The companies are just protecting themselves from liability.
My idea is to set up a couple of switches at the linkage on top of the tranny that would be tripped any time the shifter is either in front of or behind the middle plane (where it sits in neutral). You wire them to the wire on the remote start used for the neutral safety switch on an auto. Currently I have that wired to the reverse light so I can put it in neutral on a hill and not worry about accidentally starting it.

i didn't even know that they made an remote start for manual specificly. Hell when we installed at Circuit City we just hook up the Viper's. Let me know if you figure out how to set it up where the car has to be in neutral. That would be nice to have on my CRX.
I have on from Air wolf(made by design tech international) Installed in my 95 si 5 speed. Works like a charm. Was a pain in the *** to set up and install. Some of the safeguards are that the car needs to be in neutral, parking brake engaged and no door opened after engine stops.
