BLOCK LEAKS OIL

I have a b20 and oil leaks on the flywheel side. Now the machine shop i took it to said they cant find it with dye, because of the "impurites" in the casing, is this true?
If this is correct is there any way to find the leak. And how should it be fixed if found.

There is only 1 place that I think could be causing the leak. There is a hex plug on the flywheel side of the motor. It uses a crush washer to seal. That may be leaking? That is the only pressure location on the flywheel side of the block. Check that. I doubt it is leaking on an oil return galley! Never seen that before!

impurities in the casing would make maybe a little bit of sense. All of the little ridges and texture would show up as a crack, under the dye. They should be able to take care of you though, they seem like morons to me if the block is pouring oil. I would have to say you have a seal before the block would crack.

There is a Honda bulletin on porous blocks. I saw 3 of um myself when I was working at the dealer, mostly a F series Accord engines. It was a bitch chasing leaks around just to find out it leaking thru the block. Honda's fix smear Honda bond on it, no B.S.

Yeah, I'm having almost the exact same problem. Oil is dripping down from my clutch cover on my B18C5. I just rebuilt it so I'm guessing I didn't smear enough Honda Bond on the block plug, I didn't torque it down good enough, or the lower main seal is alittle crooked.
I have the same problem, but for a different reason. A PP bolt backed out and spun around in there and gashed where that giant hex fitting is. Its on the lower part of the threads and you can see where it comes out of. I already tried to JB weld it once, but I was unsuccessfull

The block is alum, and the fitting looks like its brass 2 me, im assuming you really cant weld those 2 metals together, lol... Only other idea was 2 weld a thin plate over it, but im not sure of the clearance with the FW.

Yea i just got done with my b20 and it leaks in some places, ive seen oil dripping slightly from my tranny side to the block, i have no flywheel cover on at the moment, but i clearly see some oil dripping, can this mean that i put to much tranny fluid/oil in? i kinda went a little over so im sure the tranny is at max capacity with oil, going to put it back on the lift today, is this a common problem with b20's? i have smelling oil when i drive, most of all, smoke....also i hope it isnt the main seal becuase it would be a bitch to apply honda bond to it with the tranny bolted up, but i mention the tranny becuase when you overfill, it tends to leak small amounts of oil. bump for this thread!

Once upon a time i was a rover tech i did roughly one pourus block replacement per month hows that for quality castings
