which is quieter resonator or glasspack? how long
well im still complaining about my exhaust. i think im looking at putting on a resonator or a glasspack but which is quieter? also how long should i get it?
oh ya i have a 91 crx w/ first gem b16
oh ya i have a 91 crx w/ first gem b16
my exhaust is a 2.5inch custom exhaust with a turbo muffler on a my 90 b16 crx
sounds like absolute **** so i threw in a 16inch dynomax glasspack, definitley deepened the tone and took away(a decent amount of) the...bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzanttttttt that was there
.. just DONT GET a 19$ turbo muffler!!!!
but yea if u use a glasspack in ur exhaust system it basically acts as a resonator..

A resonator is really nothing more than a small muffler that is installed in the exhaust system before the main muffler. And as such, it can be a glasspack or any other type of muffler.

If you want quiet, you can't go wrong with the 22" Magnaflow resonator (4" body, variable ID). I used one on this setup as my only resonator:

O.k., heres the deal:
Resinator-usaully pack with steel mesh fibers
Glass Pack-packed with fiberglass
Good-resinators, last longer, will eventually rust through, but not before you probably decide to change your exhaust again.
Bad-Glass packs, the fiber glass in them eventually melt from the intense heat that travels through them.
I got a 90 civic hatch with 2" from the factory resinator(located under shifter)back. no muff originally, just a tip. Got tired of the loudsnapping and buzzzing. So I got a hold of a "GM" resinator of a 98 buick that came into our work to get new exhaust. I got it put on and all my budds want to know how I got such a sweat tone. Low tone before 3,500 r.p.m., and just loud enough to wake up the guy beside me after that. Sounds ghetto but you can polish it out the same as a stainless and it looks great.

I got the same setup. Couldnt agree with you more. I'll be gettin a glasspack/resonator on mine, just hope it actually helps.

For $20 bucks you can't go wrong, sure its not gonna last for ever but neither will a resonator.

I wouldn't bother with that unless it's temporary. Here's a comparison between my former exhaust (using the above product) and my new exhaust:

I posted the thread above if you want more details. The difference between a $20 glasspack like the one from Jegs and a $60 Magnaflow 4" round muffler/resonator is like night and day. Like I said, if this is a temporary setup then save your money and buy the glasspack, but if you're building an exhaust setup that you actually want to keep you'll be much happier with the performance of the Magnaflow. In addition, I ran 2 x $20 glasspacks on an OEM cast exhaust manifold (as seen above) and it was louder than the single $60 Magnaflow with the 4-1 2.5" header.

They must have, but it's hard to say. With ear plugs, a head sock, and a helmet I still wouldn't want to spend more than 30-40 straight minutes driving it. It registered 102dB facing away from the track microphone.

But your just running a glass pack and resonator correct ? No muffler ?

I didnt like the way me exhaust sounded so I went and got a 25" glasspack it made it 100% better. It was only 20 bucks if it melts in a year or two buy a new one no biggie. All teh resonators that I found were exspensive.

The first setup was two generic glasspacks. The second setup is a single Magnaflow resonator/muffler/whatever you want to call it. Since there's nothing else in my system to change the noise I figure it's a good direct comparison. Obviously adding a full length exhaust tube and a larger muffler on the end will make it quieter, but it's harder to determine differences between resonators.

take a look carefully. that magnaflow has MUCH MUCH more material in it for sound absorbtion. personally stainless pack does not suit my tastes for honda exhausts- i have heared them to be a little raspier than the glasspacks, but FOR SURE a stainless pack will last far longer than a glasspack. i like glasspacks, and i am running a glasspack perforated core cherry bomb with a glasspack dynomax 2.5in/out muffler with perfroated core also. sounds great, but is steadily getting louder with over 1 yr of use now..its still not louder than say a greddy EVO yet, tho.

No checkers around here, atleast that I know of.
I know a store that has something pretty close to it, even down to the color but I think the name brand was flowtech, I'll send you an IM of the store.
