Fly wheel choices...
I posted about this topic a few weeks back but i didnt get the responses i was hoping for
I am ordering a flywheel tomorrow and im torn between two really good choices. There is the Xact 12lb i can get for 200 and then there is the fidanza 8lb i can get for 170. Can anyone describe how drastic the difference between the two flywheels will be? Im really tempted to get the 8lb but I just dont want to not be able to drive it. I realize it will take getting used to any lightened flywheel but will driving an 8lb be easy after a while?
Also im going to buy the Exedy organic stage 1 clutch...that is for sure
will both of these flywheels mate to this clutch ok?

My opinion, anything weighing more than 8lbs is not worth replacing with a light weight flywheel. You might as well keep the stock flywheel.
I have an 8lbs and it is not harder to drive. Most people blew it out of proportion.
The 8lb makes driving stick, IMO, MUCH easier. It is less wear on the clutch too because the revs drop back down to where they need to be for the next gear. You don't have to speed shift either.
Also, you don't drop out of VTEC shifting gears. The people who say that need a driving lesson.

8lbs
I just put in an 8lb Fidanza and I wish it was lighter. It feels great so far and I still have no idea why people say you loose torque..?

Agree entirely ! I've had the 8lb Fidanza flywheel fitted for quite a while with no negative effects at all. Car revs and pulls better and you wouldn't even know when driving the car that it was installed.
I've since had Crower Stage 2 cams with non stock idle lobes installed and set up on just adjustable cam gears and an apexi VAFC and the car still drives fine in traffic.
So go for the Fidanza, you won't regret it. BTW I weighed my OEM flywheel and it was 21 lbs so there is quite a difference.

Jeez, a 13 pound difference must feel amazing! Ill never no any better though since im going from an auto to a manual, but that will feel best of all

i got the 11.8lb flywheel you are looking at by ACT. You can notice quite a bit of difference from the stock one. Its recommended to keep a little bit of the weight if you are going to be drag racing or whatever as you want more rotating mass. It all comes down to whatever you choose. Ive seen people say taking weight of the stocker works just fine for them, others like the 11, others like the 8. Pick whatever you want. I have absoultly no complaints/regrets with my XACT 11lb flywheel.

How much is the Prolite?? I remember when I bought mine that the Fidanza was the best for the money. It was the cheapest.
As for the downside to it, I don't see any. For the cost of the light weight flywheel, it really doesn't cost you that much because resurfacing an OEM flywheels costs $40-50 anyway.
As for the motor revving up faster, it is KIND OF noticeable. Don't expect a night and day difference. Many make the affects of a ltw. flywheel seem drastic. It really isn't. It's a good mod if you already have the tranny off or you are relacing the clutch. It is not something worth pulling out the tranny just to replace the flywheel.
Hope this helps.

Haven't we been over this 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times ?
Andy's on the money, get the lightest flywheel you can. All the people that bitch & moan about a flywheel being too light, and hard to drive, have either A. never driven with one, or B. are whiners.
I have had the 8lbs Fidanza for the last 90,000 miles in my car and its just fine (although it probably needs a new friction surface).

I love my Fidanza 8lb flywheel...
The one thing I always say about it is that if I were only allowed one mod... that would be it...
Rev Matching & Heel/toe'ing is a joke with anything heavier...
