Do i need to upgrade my stock Rods?
Im planning a 'mild' NA build for January/Febuary..
I plan to drop some P30 pistons with OEM rings and bearings in my GSR Bottom end, along with a new ITR water/oil pump. And seals and gaskets and ARP rod bolts and head studs. Stock OEM 3 layer gasket.
Then for the cylinder head.. Its going to be probably stock CTR with fierra valvetrain and cams i havent decided, something that peaks around 8.5k and works well with 11.6:1 CR (ANY sugestions???), and stock valves.
The boltons will be BISI header, 2.5" exhaust. Abes reworked IM, 65/70mm TB, RC 310cc Injectors, AEM FPR, and a walbro pump.
It will be tuned on the street with a wideband and Ubderdata.
Now i want to keep this a 'budget' build for my dailydriver. The bisiheader.. thats if funds permit what i have now i will reuse.
Should i upgrade to eagle rods, they run about $400. Is it nesecary or should i spend the $400 elsewhere. The motor will only see 8.5k redline. Will my GSR rods be okay?
I want to aim around 190-200WHP with lots of tuning
Is there anything i should change or alter to help aim this on a 'budget'?
Thanks

Gsr rods will be fine, you aren't really going over the stock redline, the arp rod bolts should be enough security.
even at high output allmotor setups, stock rods are alright. how often do you see a 12.5:1 ctr piston LS/VTEC throw a rod(assuming it's built properly)?
stock rods are fine, and if it'll make you sleep better at night, buy some ARP rod bolts.
btw, this is mike k. not emerica.

of course, when it isnt your money it is easy to spend it
No, you dont need to spend 300+ on rods for 200-250hp all motor build

If you're only gonna be revvin to around 8,500, then I wouldn't say that it's necessary. The only reason I would be conserned with your build up is if you were revvin way high and stretched a rod. Other than that, like these other fellas said, do some rod bolts and 8.5 is no problem all day every day!
Thanks. That way I can run GSR bearings without worrying about clearance (I will still check)
Seems like all thats needed for the bottom end p30 pistons. And new bearings, seals, gaskets, waterpump oilpump and timing belt
Then just build the head and with tuning i might hit 190-200 whp

It sounds like we have very similar buildups and goals.
I used the GSR Rods with the ARP rod bolts. So far, everything's been fine!
(20,000 km's and lots of trips to the strip/autocross)
