With a DX you're about to learn the hard way, but the ZC is a good way to learn, try:

to put the dohc in your dx you will need to switch from dpfi to mpfi you can use your stock tranny but it would be better to get as si tranny if available also for the ecu you can get a civic/crx si ecu or you could go with the 88-89 integra ecu or you could also go with the zc ecu you do not need to switch to obd1 to run this motor either a website i would suggest for you to look at is http://www.dmoore.com/crx/zc.htm it is a very good website and you will find alot of useful info

convert to mpfi and get 88-91 civic/crx si ecu..
Swap in an si or zc tranny since you have all the **** out of the car anyway...
You dont want to over rev a zc with the 88-89 teg ecu..
The motor is complete bolt-in

I'm goina use the civic si ecu, and i new i had to convery, but is it safe to use the dx tranny, i don't want to tear up anything? I'm tryin to get a more powerful engine and kept in a decent budget..under 1000$...i dont hvae the cash to get the better tranny yet. I'm problably gonna change engine mounts, i can stick with the 88-91 mounts right? Thanks for the help.

*Edit* OBD0 PM6 ECU <--thats what i can use right?

1) It is safe to use any L3 transmission with the DOHC ZC, the only one that is signifigantly different is the HF as it has smaller shafts. The DX and the Si L3s are exactly the same except for the final drive.
2) You can stay with your stock mounts, hence the term "straight bolt-in."
3) Your ECU choices are the PG7, PM6, PM7, or PR2. Any of these will work.

I hear the best 2 ECUs are either the ZC ECU itself whih has the problem of topping out at 114mph and the 86-89 Integra ECU, I don't know of any downfalls to that.

for the ecu, i know quite a few people that use the PM6. I've heard the PG7 is a little bit "better" from some people, and other people who previously had the PM6 said they didn't notice a difference by swapping it for the PG7. Just some input, not anything too helpful i suppose.

If you can't get your hands on a ZC ecu, I would DEFINATELY pick up a pm6.

I just did this swap into my 88 CRX Si. I didnt have to do the dpfi to mpfi swap, but its a pretty easy engine to get running. I just used my stock si ECU and si tranny. I am pretty happy with the results. I ordered my engine from HMO too, worked great, see if they cant get you an engine with the complete ZC harness though. It will make for a much easier swap. You want everything from the ECU back, If not you have to re-pin the dizzy plug and wire in the cam angle sensor. Its not hard but in hindsight i would have just liked to plug in the harness and go. Get new plugs and wires too. The ones that came on my ZC didnt spark at all. You should be able to get this swap done for 1000 or less. Good luck.

Clarification: 88-89 PG7 is what you want...the 86-87 is for vacuum advance(bad).

I've tried several first hand. My opinion in order:
1. PM7...very smooth. 112mph speed limiter...if that's a problem, well, you won't live very long.
2. PG7...runs a little rich at idle. Power comes on quick.
3. PM6...runs just fine, strangles power output by a couple hp, especially at the higher rpms.
4. PR4(90-91 teg)...some people like this...I don't. It'll work in a pinch but the fuel/timing are just way off. It will run the car in a pinch though

If you have a 90-91 PM6, you can get it chipped with PM7 fuel/timing and no speed limiter. Zdyne used to do this for $200+ but the average pgmfi.org chip burner would do it for under $100.
Avoid the Ebay "mugen" and "spoon" chips like the plague.

...a pinch?
