Banging noise when releasing throttle (CV joints? Enginemount?)
Okay.. got the following problem on my car:
It started right after my swap (1.4 EJ to b16a gen 1).. My car has never idled well. It would go from 500-1500 up and down. When stepping on the gas, the engine would tilt, but as far as my knowledge goes; not too much. Whenever I had a cold engine, it would stall when releasing the gas. Also when stepping on the gas right before it would die out, I would hear a loud metal-on-metal CHUNK. I can feel it thru my gearknob. The car would stop doing it however when it was warmed up.
My tuningshop assured me it wasn't an enginemount or any other serious problem so I kept driving around with it. Since about a week however, it's gotten worse. Even if I drive 100mph... when I release the gas.. I will hear the CHUNK. Because a friend of mine also had an idle problem like mine.. he had his passengerside rear (tranny) engine mount replaced.. all his problems where gone. On a quick visual inspection however, and a phonecall with my tuningshop.. they where sure it wasn't the mount.
A few sidenotes: It only makes the sound while driving, not while revving.. I can feel the engine tilt when revving with the car standing still. The axles and enginemounts are supposed to be new (got about 2500 miles on them now). Also it doesn't happen all the time..
As I'm going for a slightly more powerfull engine (okay.. a lot more
) I'll be switching to Gator axles anyway.. but would this resolve the problem? Or does anyone have other input..

Hmmmm, are you checking the motor mounts yourself or having the shop you had do the install check them?
I would start by checking your mounts for yourself just to see if you can see anything out of whack. Is it coming from the passenger side of the car when you let off the gas?

Yes, check all the bolts too to make sure they're tight. As far as the mounts, look for cracking or tearing in the mounts.
Can you tell where it's coming from? ie: driver's or passenger side?

Don't laugh dude, but...check your lugnuts, they might be loose. This happened to me, I almost replaced my axles too but when I jacked the car up and took the wheels off to swap the axles, I could take the front lugs off by hand! I tightened them up, let the car down, drove around and the clunk was gone. It was happening whenever I hit the gas or let off & stepped on the brakes.
thanks for the tips..
well.. it's def not the lugnuts.. cause I check those very often.. So I guess putting it on a bridge and do some checking with a wrench will be my best bet..
