Default Best D-Series VTEC Head? Best D-Series Block?

D16Z6, D16Y8, JDM D15B, or JDM SOHC VTEC ZC?

Which one flows the best and has the most upgrades available for it. Want to do a turbo set-up eventually...

Also, which would be my best bet for a block/bottom-end? I want one that maybe has a stroker kit available for it. I want a true sleeper: a D-Series motor with as much power as possible...

To answer your question though, the D16Z6 head is the best flowing and I believe it is the same casting as the JDM D15 head.

I'm not sure if you know BOB Norwood out in texas. But he built my motor I gave him the money and he did his thing. He did a d16a6 block and a 96+ non-vtec head. The 96 and up have alil bit more compression do to the square ports. I'm running 10 to 1 comp. maybe a little lower. With about 20-25psi. But the block is sleeved by golden eagle. I hope to have the tranny put together this weekend and have the car tuned in two weeks.

If I was building a SOHC from scratch for boost, it would be a Z6 block with an A6 (PM3) head. The PM3 head has wider valve spacing, and flows better than the D VTEC heads. It's easier to tune one fuel and timing map too. Just because it's VTEC doesn't mean it will make more total power.

That is incorrect. The SOHC VTEC heads have larger valves and a more aggressive camshaft. The VTEC head will flow better than the non-VTEC head. Where did you get your information from?

Please explain to me how a head with smaller valves and a less aggressive camshaft will outflow a head with larger valves and more aggressive camshaft. If you can't explain, then I would have to say you heard wrong.

Can ANYONE explain how the SOHC VTEC head flows more?

SPECs aside, they're Just specs-we can only ASSUME the head "flows" more
WAY too many variables to consider.

Only reason I'm on the A6/B7 bandwagon is because of the SOHC Messiah
-Bisi
He said it does, and I'm not gonna doubt it
CALL it blind FAITH or, listening to what other people say er whatever you want.

BUT I will not discount the FACT that OUT the box, STOCK vs STOCK the SOHC VTEC will net more gain.
WHO has the most potential? I'll let the brainiacs figure that out. Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy the ride.

It's simple, more airflow = more HP. Bigger ports, valve and cam specs will all do this providing the I/E will support the flow and fuel and spark is optimized unless there are severe valve shrouding, wierdo port. CR, or pthc issues.

Anyone wishing to disagree, bring valid tech to the table, vouches don't count. I won't bother to get in a pissing match if you can't back it up with verifiable facts.

Btw, Bob Norwood knows his game.

Which level of great depends if you're happy running mid-pack or want to be up front.

Hell, with enough $$$$ and resourcefulness, you make make a Yugo a Honda killer. But why bother?

Why bother with an inferior head to begin with when you can mod a better one and have more reliability, not to mention more hp?

There's no doubt about it, you've never ported heads. If you did, and have seen the wide variety of D series heads, you would never have posted the above.

I'm running a D16Z6. So far very happy with the way it flows. Next time on the dyno I won't let off at 7500rpm
